Speaker Strauss has been re-elected

Michael Quinn Sullivan was hired by a multi-millionaire in Midland in conjunction with Craddick to spread false rumors about Strauss. Craddick is a vindictive fella.

Strauss will allow bills to originate from the bottom up as opposed to how Craddick ruled with an iron fist.

Don't let the smear campaign fool you, Campus Carry will come up again and has a VERY good chance of passing.

TSRA was more concerned last session with getting the employer bill passed, they felt this was more important than campus carry...Campus Carry is on their radar and very important to them this session.

Strauss is not as bad as everyone thinks. While he is not as conservative as we would like, he won't force his beliefs on our legislators. He truly believes in a representative style of government.

Oh baloney. I watched the last session VERY closely. Strauss made sure the campus carry bill didn't make it to the floor until it was too late for it to pass. He and only he has that power, and he uses it routinely to squash bills he doesn't like.

Campus carry has NO chance of passing so long as Strauss is Speaker. I'll eat those words if it happens this session, but I'm not too worried about doing it. Mark my words. It will sit on the calendar until late in the session and then be brought forward when it's too late to do anything with it. Strauss is a bully and a traitor to conservatives.

Voting for speaker of the house should be done by secret ballot.

There is no reason that our elected officials should have to play this game, living in fear that if they speak against the speaker that their bills will not get heard and that they will not be assigned to favorable committees.

I don't think so! Every vote cast by an elected official needs to be public & on the record. Yes, the speaker does get to set the agenda. But those kind of things work both ways. If Strauss oversteps his authority, you can be sure that the rest of the House will put him back in line. Unfortunately, the issues that matter most to us as CHL holders may not make as big of an overall impact to the rest of the state. And with such a short time to get everything done, not every piece of legislation can see the light of day. It's the price we pay as a state for limiting our government intrusion.

So, what is true?

The truth is HB 750 died in the House calendars committee in the previous session. After a public hearing, the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee favorably voted out House Bill 750, the Concealed Carry on Campus Bill. It was then quietly killed in Straus' hand picked calendars committee which is not subject to open records requests. I wonder why.
