Military renewal question
I am currently stationed overseas and won't make it home in time enough to renew my Texas CHL. I haven't received the renewal notification/package as of yet, but it should be on its way. I will only have 2 months before my Tx CHL expires by the time I get home. I understand submitting the renewal within 45 days of receipt of the renewal package. Won't happen. I haven't seen any exceptions for Soldiers. I did request info from the Tx Gov CHL site concerning my predicament but haven't received an answer yet.
Question:
I WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE PROCESS AGAIN FROM SCRATCH WON'T I?
Thank God for Nonresident Virginia CHL! That is my plan in progress just in case. Don't want to leave myself and family unprotected during the process time, if it comes to it.

Re: Military renewal question
Renewal Package? What's that?
They just send you a letter now telling you to do everything online.
Two months is plenty of time for you to renew online once you are back home.
You submit the application, pay your money and upload the CHL-100 and that's it. All online once you have your new CHL-100.
Renewals take you about one day to do your part and it takes them about 3 weeks to do their part. As long as you get started before yours expires you will have no problems other than to be without a Valid CHL if you waited till say 3 weeks before it expired. But even then I believe you have 6 months grace to renew....but I am not sure on that.
I did my second renewal 6 months BEFORE expire!
Thanks for your service!

Re: Military renewal question
Even if you aren't able to get renewed before your expiration date, you won't have to go through the entire process again.
You have 1 year after the expiration date to renew your CHL. After 1 year, you have to start over again as a newbie.

Re: Military renewal question
I can't believe somebody who gets a FREE license is whining about the class.
Re: Military renewal question
Whining? I didn't read a "whine". A request for clarification is all that was there.recaffeination wrote:I can't believe somebody who gets a FREE license is whining about the class.

Re: Military renewal question
He was rightfully worried about being able to complete the necessary legal requirements to renew. He wants to comply with the law.recaffeination wrote:I can't believe somebody who gets a FREE license is whining about the class.

Re: Military renewal question
FYI,
Thank you for using the Regulatory Services Division’s website.
Texas CHL holders do have a 12 month grace period after a license expires to renew it so you have some time to work with. Other than that there are no exceptions.
For security reasons, please do not respond to this email. Should you need further assistance, please return to our web page at Contact Us to securely submit additional inquiries. To help us better serve you please copy and paste any previous messages into the new message.

Re: Military renewal question
One note; once your license expires you cannot carry a concealed handgun until you take your renewal and get your new license. The grace period only gives you the ability to take the renewal class and not have to go through the initial class again.FireForEffectK wrote:FYI,
