I expect that most big box stores will not be posting signage of any kind. Wal-mart has a company-wide policy of not banning guns at any of their stores - whatever local laws allow for, Wal-mart allows and does not add any additional restrictions. Keep in mind also that a few years ago, the Brady Campaign put alot of pressure on Starbucks to forbid open carry at their stores in Seattle. Starbucks stood firm and refused to give in. If a company based in a liberal town like Seattle stood up to the Bradys and refuse to outlaw open carry, I'm optimistic that other companies will be unlikely to prohibit open carry. And, of course, we haven't seen a rash of no-gun signs in other states (like Oklahoma), so I don't expect it to be an issue here.
Unless something has changed with Starbucks that I'm not aware of, I disagree with saying that they didn't give in. While they make it clear that they claim to not be anti gun or anti 2A, they have said that they do not want guns in any Starbucks:
http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/bus ... z/2829937/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"After months of wrangling over the highly emotional issue, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz on Wednesday announced that guns are no longer permitted in Starbucks stores — or in Starbucks outdoor seating areas."

They requested people not carry in their stores. They have not banned carry in their stores. This quote is from the same article.
"At this point we'll sit and monitor the situation," says Schultz. "We're hoping that most people will honor the request." But even if gun-carrying customers don't honor the request, says Schultz, "We'll serve them with a smile and not confront them."

I'm pro 2A, obviously, and really don't want to discriminate against anyone ... but a blind shooter?? C'mon...

I remember laughing hard when I saw an elevator that had the federally mandated braille numbers and wording on it's signage. It was funny because it was a parking garage elevator; but hey, rules is rules...

cant be any different than the braille keypads on drive thru atm's
That is something that has always puzzled me.

I think "open carry" is 1 Jan '16, but what about the 30.06 amendment? That was different section of the Penal Code wasn't it? Or is it the entirety of what was passed delayed until 1 Jan?
The entire bill becomes effective 1 Jan 2016 as long as Governor Abbott does not us his veto power. I do believe he has already stated that he will sign it if it makes it to his desk. Well it is now on the way to his desk.
He's promised to sign it and has reaffirmed his commitment via twitter a few minutes ago.

No. The Bill came up too early for them to have a chance. It's 54 hours to the end of the session. (That was no accident.)

Like I said, if it ends at me just showing him my license, I'll do it and move on without making a big deal out of it. If he is a jerk and treats me in a disrespectful manner or abuses his authority, I can the file a complaint with the department and then sue the department and the officer.

Re: HB 910 Conference Committee

After watching all the antics, listening to all the rhetoric and considering the consequences, I'm ok with removing the amendment and showing an officer my carry license if stopped and asked. Now if it becomes too often or I run into "that cop" that has a burr in his rear over someone open carrying, I'll take the necessary steps to deal with that particular situation on a case by case basis if or when it happens.

For those of you living in the big cities, I think you are the ones that may encounter such requests the most. I hope you will deal with any such contacts and requests in a professional courteous manner at the moment and take up any grievances via the proper channels and methods. If we will handle things in the right way without coming across as jerks, I believe it will be no time before the cops get more comfortable with open carry. I think most of us, cops and their leadership, are all scanning the horizons searching for and expecting the worst case scenarios.

No more than I plan to open carry and considering most cops are reasonable and have good intentions, I do not anticipate a problem. I think getting all worked up about the amendment or no amendment at this time is pointless and will lead to unnecessary heartburn.

I would like to know what steps need to be taken to file a false report complaint or charges against someone that calls in a malicious or frivalous MWAG call?

Man this has been a roller coaster ride!

Yes sir, it sure has. I'm pretty much numb about it now. Won't get too up or down until the session ends or the Governor signs it.
