Well, the pastor was effectively accused of neglect and therefore partially responsible for avoidable deaths. I suspect the families did not need to hear that from Charles so quickly. It could have waited, don't you think?

I won't try to justify the timing of Obama's gun control comments but I suspect the family was not has bothered by that nearly as much as hearing their pastor's neglect was a major factor in the disaster.

Charles stated the obvious & the families werent aware of his comments for the simple reason, he didnt communicate them to the family. They heard them from mad mother shannon watson & the rabid gotcha media pushing an agenda. shannon watson cared more about scoring points then she did the suffering of the families.

Human nature being what it is you can bet money that everyone impacted by this has played the "what if" game, and considering the overwhelming blow to the families, Charles comments amounted to a gnat in a hurricane.

Now, you be honest, do you think Charles' comment was valid?

Here is a list of mass murders and the killers drug use.

A second point:

I responded to a question by a poster on a progun control website, who asked about where the poster could suggest gun bans reduced murders.

I suggested politely that Mexico was a place where gun were banned.

My post was removed and I was permanently banned from the website.

I hope the new members to the website will understand that Mr Cotton's website enjoys all posts that are polite and obey the other fair rules of the site.

I have found from my time on this site that Mr. Cotton is an intelligent honorable man. If for an reason someone found his comments in any way objectionable, I have no doubt that it was unintentioned.

The world would be a much finer place, if there were only more people like Mr. Cotton.
I tweeted a response to mad mothers:

"Simple question: Is it possible some of the victims would be alive if they had been armed, as Chas Cotton merely suggests?"

It was deleted

Understand your board is probably under a lot of fire right now, and I'm certainly not trying to add to that. Just something to think about, I feel.

And he voted against concealed-carry. Eight of his church members who might be alive if he had expressly allowed members to carry handguns in church are dead.

Chas.

That's some serious victim-blaming, sir. Isn't the murderer in fact the one to blame for the nine dead folks being dead? (I realize that may not fit your agenda, to put the blame squarely where it belongs - at the feet of a guy who used a gun to kill nine innocents in a house of worship - but try for some accuracy. You demean your cause otherwise, I feel.)
Rachel,

I appreciate your considerate manner and feel obligated to respond in kind.

In my line of work when we experience an incident / accident, we conduct "A Lessons Learned". The agenda is not to assign blame, but to determine what conditions contributed to the event & what preventative measures we can logistically implement.

Lessons Learned has taught that we cannot eliminate all threats, but it has led us to do tasks in a safer manner.

In the case of this massacre, an event that is a result of a person breaking the law, just how can another law prevent a future occurrence?

I speak for the forum in welcoming you to stay and interact with us. You will find us to be a respectful and thoughtful group that have put a lot of thought in protecting ourselves and family.

Re: Church shooting Charleston SC

Per Allen West (Written by Michele Hickford, Editor-in-Chief )
According to a 2013 Pew Research study, 37 percent of households had an adult who owned a gun — 24 percent said they owned a gun, and 13 percent said someone else in their household did.

There are about 319 million people in the United States, so that means there are about 118 milion gun owners in this nation. Mother Jones reports there have been 69 mass shootings in the last 30 years. The Washington Post says, A Congressional Research Service report published in 2013 counted 78 incidents over roughly the same period, in which 547 were killed.

That means, out of 118 million gun owners, 78 or .00007 percent of the gun owning population are potential mass murderers (using a 30-year total).
