So much for getting a vaccine to prevent mutations.

Heard it on the news this morning. They said the RNA vaccine can be changed to add new variants in a few weeks time and out for distribution in 6 weeks. My question is how many darned boosters are we going to have to get? One every six months forever?
Don't forget to add time for testing and FDA approvals. So add a few months to that time frame. Any change to the vaccine means a new approval process.

Africa may have some kind of immunity from Covid.
Perhaps it is because most of sub-Saharan Africa does not have a lot of mass media feeding the frenzy? Just a thought.
Perhaps it the large amount of malaria cases and the widespread use of chloroquine & hydroxychloroquine? Or is it the heat drying up the moisture drops carrying the virus?

Houston daily infections have gone up. We are about to pass China.
Numbers from China are just not trustworthy.

The CDC ran tests on blood collected in six states for non-covid purposes, e.g. cholesterol, etc. The time frame as IIRC late April-early May. From that they estimated that as many as 10 to 12 times as many people had been infected as was being discovered by testing those who had symptoms. This means that there were 10-12 times as many people who had it who were either altogether asymptomatic or whose symptoms were so mild they did not realize they might have Covid. This also means the hospitalization and death rates were far smaller than "known" numbers were indicating. Combine that with the fact that half of all Covid deaths occurred among nursing home population (and recall that NY was not counting nursing home residents who died in the hospital as "nursing home deaths.")

In other words we should concentrate on protecting the truly vulnerable, the elderly and the seriously ill, and everyone else quit losing their minds.

Total case count is meaningless since it includes people recovered. Active cases had a 400% increase in the past 2 weeks. The death count had a 25% increase. The number of tests are up about 25% in the same period.

There appear to be questions regarding the test though. Seems that the test will find the dead virus remains still in your system and report that as positive. This means that you might still test positive after you have recovered. This could lead to recovered cases still being included on the active case count, thus inflating the number.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/faq.html
. Many recovered persons do not have detectable SARS-CoV-2 RNA in upper respiratory tract specimens. In others, viral RNA can be persistently detected by RT-PCR in respiratory tract samples after clinical recovery. In some persons, after testing negative by RT-PCR in two consecutive samples, later samples can test positive again. Whether persistent or recurrent, these repeated detections of viral RNA consistently are associated with higher cycle threshold (Ct) values (i.e., fewer RNA copies) than were found in earlier RT-PCR results in samples collected shortly or and during clinical illness. Studies that have looked at how long SARS-CoV-2 RNA can be detected in adults have demonstrated that in some persons it can detected for weeks.
Also, remember that a mask will not prevent YOU from being infected as the virus will go right through the mask when you breathe in if you do not have a N95 mask. It only slows the volicity of the virus as YOU breathe out, thus reducing how far it travels. The mask reduces the chance of you spreading the virus if you are infected. The only sure fire way to protect your love ones who are considered high risk would be to stay away from them if you have been near anyone else.

Re: Corona Virus (COVID-19)( SARS-CoV-2) from China: Its going to be bad.

https://in.dental-tribune.com/news/new- ... -whos-3-4/
. The new estimates of fatality rate released by the CDC are as follows for different age groups:

0-49 years old: 0.05%
50-64 years old: 0.2%
65+ years old: 1.3%
Overall ages: 0.4%

The CDC has also cautioned that the numbers are likely to change as new data arrives. But, if you consider how we have gone from 3.4 % to 2.0 % to now 0.26 %, it seems more likely that the number might get even lower as we get more data.
So overall, 2.6 times more deadly than the flu. A far cry from the 3.6% fatality rate the China propaganda arm (WHO) are still saying.

Ruark wrote: Fri Apr 17, 2020 5:59 pm I'm beginning to see reports now of people getting $50,000 bills for their coronavirus treatments, particularly if it involved ICUs and/or ventilators. It can go as high as $80K in some cases.

Health care is insane; I don't know where this is going. Take an ordinary ECG of your heart. A Medical Assistant making $8/hr. sticks some electrodes on your chest. They come in boxes of 500, like half a cent each. The MA runs the ECG machine, which cost $399, for a few seconds. It prints out the ECG on some graph paper. The graph paper comes in 100-ft. rolls that cost a few dollars each (in cases of a dozen).

Then comes the bill: ECG - $820.
Then the beauty. The physican grabs the printout, glances at it and says, "yeah, looks OK" and tosses it on the table.
"ECG interpretation: $375"

This is just beyond comprehension.
Medical insurance is one of the reasons that it all costs so much. I have read before that doctors and hospitals do not expect to get the amount that they charge. Each provider decides how much they will cover for any given procedure, often some percentage. So, in essence, the docs and hospitals OVER-charge so they can get something close to what they really want to get for the procedure, whatever it may be. That's a big problem because no one is then sure how much something should really cost. Medical insurance has inflated all the prices for everything medical-related. I'm sure some of the insiders know, but not us "regular folks".
No exactly. Medical payments to providers are decided by a predetermined rate per procedure. So when a provider joins a medical insurance network, they are given a list of how much the insurance will pay for each procedure. It does not matter what the doctor tries to bill, the insurance will only pay the predetermined rate for the procedure. Providers like to bill a ridiculous amount all the while knowing they will only be paid a set amount in order to show that the patient received a discount of the difference. The procedure rates are set according to regional averages.

Medical insurance is only one of the reasons. Fraud, malpractice insurance, and lack of independent doctors (they are mainly all a part of large companies now) are the bigger reasons.

I believe the House passed an updated version of the bill they passed over the weekend. The Senate still needs to discuss and pass both revisions.

US Numbers
In 6 months this flu season - 36,000,000-51,000,000 people have caught the flu. (6 million to 8.5 million per month)
370,000 - 670,000 hospital stays (roughly 60,000 to 110,000 per month)
and 22,000 - 51,000 deaths (3600 to 8,500 per month)

Why has toilet paper disappeared because of the Wuhan Flu which has infected 200k world wide and killed less than 10k world wide? Seems to me we should be more worried about the flu.

Not seeing this site posted here before, but here are the latest numbers:

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

And remember that even with the highest possible amount of testing (currently in South Korea), you are only looking at about 20,000 tests a day. You will have millions of Americans that will have this virus, never tested, and will be fine. We will hear about the deaths and the cases that have tested positive, but never about those millions that were just fine.
