After the case is fully over, including the AG suit, someone should serve an Open Records Request for all documents, audio/video records, emails, check requests/stubs, etc. related to this issue. Then give it to the media. Not me -- I do enough of these requests.

Chas.
That's a good idea. I'll consider doing it if I remember or it hits my radar at the appropriate time. I may need a little coaching on how to phrase the letter appropriately to get all the info.
I’ve done three Public Information Act requests. I’m not a lawyer, just somebody who gets steamed when the State won’t follow its own laws.

Read the AG’s PIA handbook, for starters (free pdf download). No special wording is required, but I think it makes sense to say you are asking under the PIA. Basically, any question to a State employee is covered. If you ask a secretary how late her office is open, it’s technically covered under the PIA.

If you don’t get the information you want, this is one of the few things the AG will help with

Out of the three requests I’ve written, all three were deliberately mishandled. One, I didn’t learn how I was scammed for months. Another, the AG wrote a demand letter on my behalf (and the agency still said they didn’t have meeting minutes required in statutes), and a third I’m just getting started on.

I should probably get a life. The PIA carries criminal penalties without protection of office, but that doesn’t mean it’s willingly obeyed in all cases.

Re: Texas Carry Executive Director sued for filing signage complaint against Waller County

How bold of Waller County - the lawsuit states as uncontroverted that the AG agrees with Holcombe and that the County disagrees with the AG.

It would be funny, but now I'm skeered to travel in Waller County, "skeered" being the state of youthful terror commonly brought about by spiders.

If I understand correctly, Holcombe sent letters demanding the County obey the law as he and the AG understand it.

What if I am found in violation of traffic law in Waller County and issued a ticket? Worse, what if I paid the ticket without objection?

My check for fine payment to Waller County would be, in effect, a demand document requiring the County to take my money and abide by the laws regarding punishment.

I would hate to be sued for paying a traffic fine, and if I weren't, I would hate to think I were treated with greater deference than Mr. Holcombe.

I would really hate to think Waller County would decline to sue on the basis of monetary benefit. That turns a noble speeding ticket into some kind of bribery.

Disclaimer - I can't remember much about Holcombe or his organization. My ramblings are for the sole purpose of poking fun at Waller County, not to either endorse or discredit Mr. Holcombe.

Re: Texas Carry Executive Director sued for filing signage complaint against Waller County

Little courts can sometimes forget their places. I once wrote a couple of letters to the Groesbeck Municipal Court asking what law I'd pleasantly pled guilty to. I was stupidly over the speed limit and I never argued. The only response I ever got was a written threat of a restraining order if I ever wrote the court again.

Some people and a little power, sheesh.

Re: Texas Carry Executive Director sued for filing signage complaint against Waller County

Seems like rules I'm not to forget include always being sure of my target.

Waller County is targeting LTC holders, presumably to preempt crime? LTC holders, those proud few who demonstrate exemplary conduct decade after decade? They are Waller County's target?

I'm a little befuddled.
