Re: Online Meeting Class

Preaching to the choir. It would make tons of sense to allow Webex, Skype, etc for the classroom discussion... requiring the written test to be done in person, like the shooting proficiency.

Re: Online Meeting Class

I think that is answered here... https://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=98431 post from the thread I called the RSD to ask if they had considered “relaxing” the rule against using Skype, etc. for LTC classes (not self-paces online learning, but real-time conference call type classes). Th...

Re: Called out by security at appraisal district.

I know this thread is about a govt building but since other locations were mentioned... for businesses that sell alcohol (like a WalMart and Sam's), TABC says (and I'm paraphrasing 11.61) if they knowingly allow a person to possess an unlicensed firearm, they could lose their liquor license. It's in...

Re: Pistol Caliber Carbine Roundup

Hmmm - no mention of the Beretta CX-4?! It’s been around for only, what, SIXTEEN years. Yeah, the odd “thumbhole” stock is goofy, but I think it deserves mention because I have one and like it. I was also disappointed that there was no discussion of revolver / lever-action combos (which I also have...

Re: How to Handle Student's Failed Proficient Test

As jimd1981 noted, DPS allows students three attempts to qualify. I've only had four students not pass on the first attempt. Three passed on the second and the fourth passed on the third attempt. I don't charge them for multiple attempts. The three who passed on the second attempt simply shot with ...

Re: Best compact 1911? Or favorite DA/SA carry

My EDC is a "mini-1911" as in a Sig P938. When I'm in the mood to carry something a little larger, it's my Springfield Range Officer Champion.

Re: Nervous LTC test

without watching you shoot, it would be hard to say for certain
what distance were you shooting that target?
often times, shooting low/left (for right hand shooters) is due to poor or inconsistent grip (squeezing extra when the trigger is pulled)

Re: Do you ever open carry?

I haven't, but I normally do carry when I'm out and about. I do prefer carrying with an OWB holster (Sig P938 with Wright Leather Works Predator). Cooler months makes this much easier in Texas but a nice, untucked shirt works well the rest of the year.

Re: New Instructor Training Questions

A PowerPoint presentation isn't required for teaching the class. A new instructor wouldn't have the necessary, required information to create such a presentation until after they've taken the class... so I'm trying to figure out how he could have one and why DPS would ask to see it?

Application Process Question

Good evening instructors! This is a first for me so hopefully some of you can provide a little clarification. I gave a class back in March 2017 (<2 yrs ago). A student from that class started the application process shortly after (>1 yr ago) but never did the fingerprinting requirement. Does the stu...

Re: School activity involving homeschoolers

I am a home school parent. Home schools in Texas are viewed as non-certified private schools. Your child does not receive a high school diploma from the state of Texas upon graduation. I don’t see how these gatherings could possibly be viewed as a school sponsored activity when Co-ops are little mo...

Re: HB 497 - Add Types and Uses of Ammunition to Required LTC Course Curriculum

Like the others who've chimed in, I already cover ammo types, selection and purpose in my classes so adding this as a required topic would be little or no change.
