Re: Hog hunting questions

C-dub wrote:I was thinking about this last night, but was too tired to stay up and ask about it. Isn't most hog hunting done in the evening after the sun goes down? Is that why I've seen so many 200+ lumen red and green flashlights that can be attached to a rifle?
Hogs are most active during after dark. According to the TPWD website, hogs can be taken at night, but the local game warden must be notified. The website has some other interesting information about feral hogs.

BTW, they recommend .243 caliber and greater. ;-)

A license IS required (with a few exceptions).

If you choose to go the "depredation' route be prepared to show ample evidence of it or risk some serious fines. Also, you may not possess the carcass of the animal if taken under the depredation exception.

Its just so much easier to get the inexpensive license.

I have an opportunity to go on a friends land, and wondering what to bring...
Others will probably disagree, but I would go with the SKS. It may make a difference if you are shooting for meat or just to shoot the hog full of holes.

Re: Hog hunting questions

Ask your buddy if you can bring a buddy who has experience hunting and dressing a hog.
