Welcome to the forum!! :tiphat:

Thank you for your service. :patriot:

If you are in the DFW area, we have two different breakfast meet ups, one for the Northeast and one for the Southwest. They are on different Saturdays of the month, so you can make one or both. We have great conversations, and a lot of fun.

Carry guns/equipment- I haven’t decided on my primary but it is between my SIG p365 & Kimber micro 9. I just purchased an HK VP9- it’s great at the range but a little too big to carry. As far as equipment I’m in trial mode. I can’t decide what is going to be more comfortable. I’ll report back once I know more.

You have great taste in guns, any of those would be good EDC options. JMHO

Small world. My wife grew up on Grand and Suffolk. Her folks still live there, too. I'm just another scumbag from Bergen County, NJ. And yes...ours is a Yankees/Giants household ;-)

Texas is just far more pleasant than it is back home. We're loving it, and the people here are always happy to point out the accent we never knew we had :
Just tell them you weren't born here but you got here as fast as you could!!

You will find some great people here in Texas, as well as a lot of scenery. Take some weekend trips to other parts of the State, but remember, it will take longer to go across Texas than it does NJ. We have counties, bigger than NJ.

Re: Introduce yourself

Welcome to the forum NJ_Expat!! :tiphat:

There are several forum members who live in and around the Lewisville area, I'm sure they can advise you on the best shooting locations in your area.
There are also two "member meet up" breakfasts in the area. One is the DFW soutwest in South Arlington that meets, on the third Saturday of the month
https://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=89195

And the other is the North/Northeast quadrant meet up, which I believe is the second Saturday of the month.
https://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=89211

Lewisville is pretty centrally located, so you could go to one or both, I know they would enjoy meeting you and your bride, for good conversation, and give you a true forum welcome to the land of freedom. :txflag:

Jigo23 wrote:Hey y'all, just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jim, 55 years old (it's not the years, it's the MILES lol), live in Royse City about 30 miles East of Big D. Retired military (USAF) spent first of of my career doing intelligence collection and analysis against the Big Red Bear during the Cold War then went on to serve the rest in the U.S. Special Operations Command. Took part in every major military action and a lot of "minor" ones, from 1986-2004 when I retired at 20 years and 1 day (not that I was counting lol). Did the Govt/DoD Contractor thing until 2013 when those miles finally caught up to me and had to go on medical retirement/disability. Now enjoy collecting/shooting all kinds of guns, hope to get back to shooting in occasional IDPA matches, hunting/fishing as I can, and spending time with family (1 son in the FBI, 1 son in US Army) and best of all spending time with my 3 beautiful little granddaughters! Done a lot of shooting in my days but there's always something new I can learn from others here, and if I can help others here then so much the better. Mainly just looking to hang around in a fun and easy going forum with like-minded guys and gals who don't take themselves too seriously and not afraid to joke around and have a laugh, yes even at ourselves :) Thanks for letting me join y'all, looks like a great forum!

Welcome Jigo23!!

Thank you for your service, and pass my thanks on to your sons. :tiphat:

You are right we never take ourselves too seriously, plus most of us have significant others to keep our heads from getting too big. :smash:

Thank you!
Welcome to the forum!! :tiphat:

I have a Mossberg 500 with an Elzetta light mount. I just have a Mag-light model 50 mounted on it and it has held up well even using 3" mag loads. That's what stays beside my bed at night. I have the light mounted on the left side, and can easily grab the gun, and hit the rear button on the light.

There are several options out there, but for what I need, it works great and it didn't break the bank.

My name is Keith, I live in the southeastern part of DFW and have been a license holder and LTC instructor for about 5 years now. Prior to that, I spent a little over a decade in local Law Enforcement where I got to do some fun things like FTO, SWAT, Firearms Instructor, Armorer, Rapid Response Instructor and Supervisor. I started shooting competitively (mostly USPSA) in about 2004, but have kinda fallen away from that the past few years. I have been carrying for the better part of 16+ years and firmly believe if you CAN carry, you SHOULD carry. I don't ever want my last, dying thought to be "Man, if only I'd carried my gun today".

Looking forward to the forum. :cheers2:

Welcome to the forum Keith!! :tiphat:

Take some time to look around, there are several LEOs and former LEOs here, myself included. We even have a section for humorous LEO stories, that I'm sure you can contribute!! Stay safe.

Welcome to the forum GlockBrandGlock :tiphat: Your user name kinda gives a different impression than what you have listed as your carry guns, but it's all good. Glad you made the leap and joined up. Keep us updated on your wait for plastic and any adventures you have while carrying.
