Correct web site.

How exactly do you figure a rifle or shotgun is not a weapon? :totap:
I agree but they seem to define weapon as a handgun, illegal knife or club.

[Sections 11.61(e) and 61.71(f) AB Code]
The Commission shall cancel a retail alcoholic beverage
permit or license if it is found, after notice and hearing, that
the permittee or licensee knowingly allowed a person to
possess a firearm in a building on the licensed premises.

(See “Exceptions” below for instances when a person may
carry a firearm on the premises.

Unlawful Carrying of Weapons
[Section 46.02 Texas Penal Code]
A person commits an offense if he intentionally, knowingly, or
recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun,
illegal knife, or club. (See § 46.02 Texas Penal Code for full
text.)
An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor.
An offense under this section is a third degree felony if the
offense is committed on any premises licensed or issued a
permit by this state for the sale of alcoholic beverages. (See
“Exceptions” below for instances when a person may carry
a firearm on a premises licensed or issued a permit by this

Exceptions to Unlawful Carrying of Weapons
[Sections 11.61(e) and 61.71(f) Alcoholic Beverage Code,
Section 46.15 Texas Penal Code]
Texas Peace Officer’s Guide

Sections 11.61(e) and 61.71(f) of the Alcoholic Beverage
Code and Section 46.02 of the Texas Penal Code do not
apply to a person who:
1. holds a security officer commission issued under
Chapter 1702 by the Texas Occupations Code, if:
a. the person is engaged in the performance of the
person’s duties as a security officer;
b. the person is wearing a distinctive uniform; and
c. the weapon is in plain view;
2. is a peace officer;
3. is an alcoholic beverage licensee or permittee or
employee of a licensee or permittee if the person is
supervising the operation of the premises; or the firearm
is possessed for ceremonial and/or display purposes, if
such firearm is disabled from use as a firearm;
4. possesses a handgun and the person is licensed to
carry;
5. is engaged in an historic reenactment approved by the
Commission and no live ammunition is present; or
6. possesses a concealed handgun inside of or directly
en route to a motor vehicle that is owned by the person
or under the person’s control and the person is not:
a. engaged in criminal activity other than a Class C
misdemeanor traffic or boating violation; or
b. prohibited by law from possessing a firearm; or
c. a member of a criminal street gang as defined in
the Penal Code.
Alcoholic Beverage Code
37
An offense still occurs if the licensee/permittee is on the
premises of a business that has a mixed beverage permit,
a private club registration permit, a wine and beer retailer’s
permit or a beer retailer’s on-premise license if the business
derives 51 percent or more of its income from the sale of
alcoholic beverages for on-premise consumption.
This pretty clearly states that any firearm qualifies unless it is a licensed handgun, police, security detail, etc.

Correct on al counts. I'll look around the next time I go to WALMART.
I was in the big Walmart on 110 in Tyler today and saw NO TABC sign at the entrance.
Then either they are not posting the legally required signs, or you missed it. TABC website says that location has a blue gun sign. See screenshot below:

They should have the following sign posted in English and Spanish:

Hmmm, since it doesn't apply to me, I may have just ignored it, you reckon? :headscratch
Never said it did - but it did apply to the El Paso shooter!

There are so many variables that make an accurate and compete response difficult if not impossible. I'm an attorney and I don't want people equating my response with legal advice. I was a police officer for 10 years and that may or may not have an impact on my instinct. There are other reasons, but you get the message.

I will make an exception to my standard policy of not getting into these types of threads. In a mass-shooting situation, I will do everything in my power to protect innocent lives. I will go to the sound of the gunfire and I will stop the carnage as quickly and decisively as possible. I will engage the shooter with my handgun regardless of the weapon he is using and regardless of his attire. Whether I live or die is in God's hands and have no problem with reality. If I were to do otherwise, I could not live with myself. I would have to grow a beard because I wouldn't be able to look at myself in a mirror.

I don't suffer from Walter Mitty Syndrome and I have no hero complex. I pray that I never am in a position to have to take the actions I described. But if I am, I will do what I believe the Lord and my personal code of conduct requires. I will not stand by or run while evil spreads death and destruction over innocent people. That, at least in part, is why were are where we are today.

Well said, sir.
Sheep dogs always move to engage the wolf. My pastor said yesterday that you must be prepared every day to stand before the Shepherd, for you know not what day your time on earth has ended.
If I were alone I would respond in this manner. The question was while ones SO was with them. I simply could not picture risking my families lives. My main concern would still be to get my loved ones into a safer spot.
Same here. While unencumbered by dependents, I would (and have in the past) run toward the gunfire. When my family is around it's a different story. My first responsibility is to keep them safe at all costs, and I can't do that if I run to danger before they have run away from it. And what I said about reassessing the situation to see my odds of victory was less directed at this specific scenario (one unarmored guy who has little idea how to properly hold a rifle) and more at the general idea of running toward gunfire; i.e. are there multiple combatants, do they have/use cover and concealment, do they have body armor that would dictate different shot placement, what level of tactical knowledge do they demonstrate, do they have other mission-capable equipment, etc. If I'm facing a mass shooter, my odds of helping go up quite a bit compared to an armored and trained team of assailants.

Oldgringo wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 10:48 pm Hypothetical test question: You're legally carrying, with your SO on a shopping outing, and you hear gunfire within the store, what do you THINK you would do?
Wife and I would both have guns drawn. Kids would daisy chain holding hands with mom so she still has a gun in the fight. I take point, moving as far from the shooter(s) as possible toward the nearest exit. Once the family is safe, reassess the situation to see if I have enough of an advantage to win a gun fight against the shooter(s) and potentially save the lives of others. If so, engage, eliminate, and move to first aid on the victims. If not, extricate and provide the best possible intel to first responders - potentially even staying in the store and providing intel via phone so they have eyes inside.

RoadRunnerTR21 wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 8:37 am Is this Walmart in El Paso posted? I saw earlier where someone said the mall was but what about the Walmart?
I have never seen a Walmart post anything barring guns, however, to my knowledge ALL Walmarts in Texas sell beer and wine, and are therefore required by TABC to post blue signs. Said signs make it illegal to carry a rifle inside (or any other firearm that isn't carried under the authority of LTC). So, it was illegal for him to carry the gun he had into Walmart.

Other than shooting up the place and needlessly killing a bunch of innocent people; in his manifesto, he has pretty much called a spade a spade and called it as it is. Unfortunately, he forsook martyrdom and surrendered.
So, you agree with and support this ideology???
Actually, I see what he is saying. After reading the manifesto, I commented in another group that if the motive were less racist and the targets were combatants instead of civilians, this closely resembles the constitutionally protected revolution so many gun owners secretly desire. The issue is this man was so ignorant, crazy, or stupid that he executed this right in entirely the wrong way. I was struck at how a few minor rewrites to his manifesto would make it indiscernible from some beliefs held by various anti-government or pro-revolution groups - and I don't mean crazy fringe groups, I mean people like the III%ers (though I'm sure some will find that to be an oxymoron).

SewTexas wrote: Sat Aug 03, 2019 5:50 pm this is truly horrifying....how are kids so evil these days?
In my opinion it is a combination of factors. Raised by violent video games and day care. Social media creating a lack of empathy. These kids refer to texting as talking! They all live on social media and begin to see it as real life. Violent TV and Movies. The level of graphic violence this group was raised on is unfathomable.
.
honestly, I think the biggest thing is that kids haven't been raised to value life.
03Lightningrocks, I disagree wholeheartedly. I am part of the same generation, raised playing every type of violent video game from Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein 3d to Call of Duty, Halo, and Doom. I grew up watching violent movies like the Terminator franchise and war movies like Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, and the Patriot. I also saw disturbing levels of violence during my time in the Marines and as a correctional officer. These things did not turn me into a killer, a monster, or a predator. They did not desensitize me to the suffering of others, even if they desensitized me to the sight of blood. Assuming that these things can turn someone into a psychotic murderer is a harmful stereotype.

The problem as I see it is twofold: as SewTexas states, the first problem is that they do not value life. For one reason or another, they treat other people (or animals) as a possession or an object. They are unwilling or unable to empathize, to feel the pain and experience the fear of others in a way that affects their behavior. The second is that they have no external moral compass. They are accountable to themselves and no one else - there is no one whose opinion they value more than their own, so as their thinking becomes less rational, there is no one capable of convincing them they are wrong. This is one of the greatest gifts of the Bible - it offers the moral compass of an absolute God. No one measures up, and many mistakes and failings occur, but the standard still exists, is always present and never-changing.

Despite growing up in the same generation as this mongrel and being exposed to the same general experiences at roughly the same developmental points, I am not like him. I have experienced enough pain that I actively seek to reduce pain in others so they don't have to feel what I've felt. I have the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the objective truth of the Gospel to tell me when my actions or thoughts are wrong (which they all too frequently are).

Blaming video games for the violent acts of a fully functioning adult who is able to tell fantasy from reality is no different from blaming private gun ownership. Please be careful where you ascribe blame.
