Re: Need to borrow/rent a Labradar

WUT? https://i.ytimg.com/vi/in_jF1W3jUg/maxresdefault.jpg LOL! Good luck. Hope you can try before you buy. I'm on my 3rd chrono and doppler radar is something I'm very interested in when I have to buy a 4th. Please keep us updated. I have the Pro Chrono from CE. There is always some variation when ...

Re: Lead Free Primers

Edited for double post. Both of my chronos calculate SDs, though I generally use a stats program on my phone by typing in the readouts. I agree that ignition delay should be apparent in velocity variation, but some studies have shown a consistent 50-75ms delay that only really varies with temperatu...

Re: Lead Free Primers

I'll definitely watch velocities. The other issue is ignition delay, and it's hard to measure that. Finally, sure reports call them sensitive to temperature and humidity variation. All things that will be evidenced by higher standard deviation from otherwise identical loads. Unfortunately, I don't ...

Re: new hi power clone

Okay, I've owned the FEG Hi-Power and fired several. I'd say they were a bit more faithful to the original design than to call them a clone. Would you like some historical evidence? One of the first nationally known gunsmithing companies that specialize in custom Hi-Powers used the same base FEG pis...

Re: Lead Free Primers

The meta-analysis that I reviewed compared instructors using jacketed and cast bullets and found a small difference, but the n was only 2. For pistol, I load Hornady HAP, so no exposed lead at the base. I do pan to use FMJ for my carbine, so that vaporization may be an issue. The thing that scared ...

Re: Reference: Relative Burn-Rate chart for various powders

Didn't mean to turn this into a 1 man thread, but in my last post I should have also mentioned that Universal being ranked behind Unique is very suspect, IMO, and today I noticed that they have the new W244 ranked slower than W231. Since W244 is really an updated version of W231 with some chemicals ...

Re: Reference: Relative Burn-Rate chart for various powders

Still looking at handgun powders, N330 should be ahead of Unique while Western shows V-V 3N38 to be slower than AA #7. And, of course, AA #7 is a Western powder. ;-)

Re: Reference: Relative Burn-Rate chart for various powders

First, let me thank you for the question, and let me apologize for the slow response. My wife's younger brother is in dire straits and in hospice in Abilene. If you can find Hodgdon's previous burn-rate chart to the one we're discussing, IMO, it's the better of the 2. The problems I've observed with...

Re: new Speer reloading manual

looks like they now post data online as well: https://www.speer-ammo.com/en/reloading/handgun https://www.speer-ammo.com/en/reloading/rifle Thanks, ghostrider! Saw this and checked the current online data. BTW, Nosler also does this. If I understood them correctly, the data is from the 14th edition...

Re: Reference: Relative Burn-Rate chart for various powders

Hodgdon does a pretty good job with their burn rate charts; while they update them more than most. No burn rate chart is perfect and there some clear examples of that with this latest one. Refardless of that, Hodgdon does about as good as anyone else, and probably better than most! ;-)

Re: Western Powders 1st reloading manual

Maybe you can tell us what calibers they show Norma data for? Rob Behr up at Western is a good friend. As mentioned elsewhere here, I have a fairly new article on their blog titled: The Heavyweight Semi-Finals. Rob wrote the manual while the data was developed in their lab by others. It really is a ...

Re: Need Hornady Data for 6.5 Creedmoor

Everyone seems to believe that H4350 is THE powder for the 6.5 CM. Then, as an alternate RL17. I'd like to mention a couple more that are lesser known but maybe even better. Norma N204 is available through all of the major web retailers like Powder Valley, Midway etc. It is a 4350 class powder like ...

My Latest Article for Western Powder Co.

Howdy Y'all! I know I haven't been around much since I registered as a member, but a lot of that is due to a recent project. It's been wrapped up mostly for a few weeks now and I was asked to do an article about it. I've written several previously that you'll have to go back several pages to find. T...

Re: Is Federal Gearing Up to Attack the Reloading Bullets Market?…

Sorry for the dumb question but I have never reloaded. If I mainly shoot 9mm and pay about 18 to 19 cents each for them, is there any way I can really save money by reloading? I would need to do full metal jacket bullets, the wife would never allow lead. Thanks. You do not use FMJ, you use copper p...
