Re: Melting lead in a teflon coated pan

Actually, it only smells bad when you are close to it. I've found the temperature of the gases coming off of the melting pot causes them to rise as a pretty rapid rate. Five feet back from the pot and I can't smell anything on a still day. In a stiff breeze the smell is gone by 25 feet down wind. Do...

Re: cast iron moulds

Back to the original question: A friend of mine who also casts with iron molds puts his molds in mason jars after each use. He also puts one or two of the little dessicant packets that come inside pill bottles from the pharmacy. He says he has never had a rust problem. All his molds look new to me. ...

Re: Primer Hardness

Speaking of which primers are set off with the lightest strike, I have a problem that bears directly on this question. I'm in the process of designing / building an all metal semi-scale model of the German FLAK 88 cannon in 1:11 scale. That's the scale in which .308" = 88mm and a 30-30 brass ca...

Re: Bore cleaning on ar

The use of a brass catcher bag that straps on the gun was mentioned a few posts ago. I bought a UTC brass catcher bag for my AR back in the spring from Midway for under $10 and have been very happy with it. It works really great and it is really nice not to have to go chasing brass. However, there i...

Re: Picking up casings at the range

There is also a gadget on the market that was originally designed to pick up pecans in the grass. It looks like a football made of wire strands with a bearing at each end and a long handle. The small ones are perfect for picking up anything down to 25 cal cases. It's called "Nut Wizard" an...

Yep what Jumping Frog said..!! He got you all fixed up. I know that sound ....I lost the detent ball on my MEC 9000, I even followed it with my eyes all the way to the concrete floor, then...one big bounce and it shot off into the solar system somewhere..!!! I keep threatening to put carpet under m...

Re: a new android app?

It seems to me almost a certainty that this fellow, Brett Stalbaum, used U.C. facilities / resources in developing his app. This kind of activity is not generally frowned upon in an academic environment in my experience. So complaining to U.C. or Mr. Stalbaum is not likely to achieve any favorable r...

Re: Suggestions for cement mixer media separation

Another way to add vibration to the separating screen box would be to fasten a concrete shaker to it. This is a little round device with a ball bearing race and one steel ball in it. You hook it up to your air compressor and the air causes the ball to whiz around the inside of the ring like the pill...

Re: An interesting week on jury duty. . .

Rather than argue about whether capital punishment is moral or civilized we should re-examine the old French penal island concept. As I understand it, at that time, conviction of a felony crime was prima facia evidence of one's inability to live within the confines of a civil society. Whether you ca...

Re: Door To Door Solicitor Today

I live in a so-so neighborhood. I've had waaaaay too many "magazine salesmen" come to my door through the years. I do have 4 dogs, and when the doorbell rings, all heck breaks loose in my house! Of course, if you came in, they would love you to death, but the person on the other side of t...

The 2 happiest day in a boat owner's life are: 1. The day he buys it. 2. The day he sells it. ******************************************************************** At our summer place we used to have a knotty pine sign that read: A boat is a hole in the water Surrounded by wood Into which one pours ...

Re: Making your own polymer tip

Ya know, I've been wondering how much of this "polymer tip bullet" business is just somebody's idea of a way to charge more for a hollow point bullet to make an extra buck? Is there any scientifically controlled ballistic testing evidence that shows the polymer tip makes anything better? A...

Re: NON reloading question PLEASE......

Don, For What It's Worth: I just had another thought, in case you are thinking to use 30' of conduit as an antenna mast. I saw one like that some years ago rigged up like a sail boat mast with spreader bars at about the mid point and wire guys from the top, over the spreaders to attach to the bottom...

Re: NON reloading question PLEASE......

Hi Don 2, The ground plane wires do not have to be actually soldered to the "shield" braid of the coax cable as long as the shield makes good electrical connection to the "L" bracket. Just solder or weld the wires to the "L" bracket and insulate it from the support mast...
