Re: Cowboy Justice

But... Probably an ill-advised move. The felon had his gun pointed at or very close to the woman who had walked around the far aisle when the guy reached around to sweep his arm. Granted, it was a small revolver so you could assume a heavy DA trigger pull, but still. Could've gone bad.

With the decision made to approach from behind like that, I can think of at least two or three better alternatives than trying to come over the top of the gun arm and attempt a one-arm choke hold with the left arm. The kid proved the point of just how squirmy skinny young guys can be. If the felon had been able to retain the gun, or had a blade handy...could've gone bad. Kelly McCann calls it simply "combatives," but whatever you call it, it's never a bad idea for all of us to have some practical hand-to-hand training.

And big kudos to the unsung hero, the guy in the white lab coat. A store employee? His first, and best, reaction was to get that dropped gun out of play. Some may have tried to rush after the tussle and attempt to help with that, but job one was to get that revolver so if the squirmy kid got loose--which he did--he couldn't rush back over and pick it up.
