Sudan has a biohazard lab taken over by warring factions.

Contains lots of bad things including Covid.

Electricity is off. Lab workers expelled.

What could possibly go wrong.

So far no link to Brandon.
When asked how the government could be doing more to help Americans and those with dual citizenships get out of Sudan, Brandon looked confused for a moment before responding: "Come on, man. How hard is it to get out of a four-door passenger car?"

Researchers identify SARS-CoV-2 variant in white-tailed deer, evidence of deer-to-human transmission
November 14, 2022
https://phys.org/news/2022-11-sars-cov- ... dence.html
Then, in 2021, researchers in the United States started reporting widespread exposure of deer to SARS-CoV-2, which prompted [Samira] Mubareka and her colleagues to focus their efforts on the white-tailed deer commonly found throughout Ontario and Quebec.... In what became the first detection of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Canadian wildlife, the group confirmed SARS-CoV-2 genetic material in nasal swabs from three deer in southern Quebec, including two from which they were able to isolate live virus. In a new study published in Nature Microbiology, Mubareka and colleagues identified a new and highly divergent variant of SARS-CoV-2 in Ontario white-tailed deer, and the first evidence of deer-to-human transmission.

The new variant is a descendent of an older, parental B.1 virus and has 76 mutations compared to the ancestral SARS-CoV-2 strain. In comparison, the alpha, beta and delta variants had between 24 and 31 mutations while the currently dominant omicron BA.5 variant has 105 mutations.
...
Rather than deter people from interacting with deer altogether, the Public Health Agency of Canada issued new recommendations to reduce risk for hunters, trappers and other people who work closely with wildlife. These include wearing appropriate personal protective equipment when handling a carcass, processing carcasses outdoors or in a well-ventilated area and cooking meat to an internal temperature of 74 C [165.2° Fahrenheit] to kill any parasites, viruses or bacteria.

Ted Cruz's Twitter response to this was: "This...is...insane."

Yeah. I agree. And not just because I never received payment #2 and the IRS refused to let me deduct it from my 2020 taxes: I never got it, but I had to pay income tax on it as if I did.

Biden administration officially withdraws vaccine rule
https://abc13.com/vaccine-mandata-covid ... /11510975/
The Biden administration has officially withdrawn a rule that would have required workers at big companies to get vaccinated or face regular COVID testing requirements....

In early November, OSHA announced a vaccine-or-test mandate for companies with at least 100 employees. The rule - which would have impacted more than 80 million U.S. workers - was originally set to go into effect on Jan. 4.

But numerous states and business groups challenged the rule in court. On Jan. 13, the Supreme Court halted the plan. In a 6-3 ruling, the court's conservative majority concluded that OSHA had overstepped its authority.
Yet another of hundreds of Biden administration success stories! But they'll spin this one for the fervent dems, just like they spun the Afghanistan fiasco as Biden being the president who accomplished what he promised and got us out of Afghanistan. Which is sort of like Andrew Cuomo saying he saved hundreds of thousands in New York state spending by letting the people in nursing homes die of COVID so they weren't a financial burden any longer.

Mainstream media are flipping like flounders out of water, but not one is going to come out and say, "We got it wrong." CNN's Chris Cuomo even says that the notion the virus came out of a lab is a brand new idea. Sure, Chris. And your brother is a great governor and didn't kill a boatload of nursing home residents.

Fears of UK's rapid-spreading COVID-19 mutated strain prompt flight bans in several EU nations
https://abc13.com/health/fears-of-uks-m ... 12/20/2020
Several European Union nations on Sunday banned flights from the U.K. and Germany was considering limiting such flights to make sure that a new strain of coronavirus sweeping across southern England does not establish a strong foothold on the continent.
...
The EU governments say they are acting in response to tougher measures imposed Saturday in London and its surrounding areas by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. He immediately put those regions into a new Tier 4 level of restrictions, saying that a fast-moving new variant of the virus that is 70% more transmissible than existing strains appears to be driving the rapid spread of new infections in London and southern England.
The variant has been known for a couple of months, and has also been found minimally in Denmark and the Netherlands. More transmissible but I haven't seen anything indicating it has a different mortality rate. The new mRNA-based vaccines will evidently work against this strain, as well.

I watched one live on Fox News, the head of ER for a hospital. In true 21st-century journalism fashion, the needle came out and the first question the press gave him was, "How do you feel?"

Agreed. I remember getting a couple back in the early stages of the coronapocalypse. Wouldn't be so bad if they were essentially click-throughs like Amber alerts, but these things trigger an emergency warning system type klaxon thing on my Samsung. I was working at the PC in complete silence when it went off two feet from me. If I'd had a cup of coffee in my hand I'd have spilled it all over the keyboard.

All to tell me: "Alert: COVID-19 is spreading rapidly across Harris County. Stop gatherings. Get tested. Wear a mask."

Really?

Rafe wrote: Wed Sep 02, 2020 12:27 amAnd I'm not quite sure what the hullabaloo is from Fox News or any other sources, really.
From what I have seen, the hullabaloo recently is about how to define a COVID death and the way CDC reports it. The CDC recently reported that 94% of the people who had died from COVID also had some co-morbidity. People who want to say that COVID is not as serious jumped on this to say that COVID really only killed 6% of the deaths and the co-morbidities would have killed the rest. People who want to show COVID is more serious say these people would have lived with their other problems anyway if they had not caught COVID.

I believe that the truth on COVID is probably somewhere in the middle. Some of the people with COVID and co-morbidities certainly would have died anyway. I am also certain some of them would have lived for years anyway. One of the best examples of the problem is when they list obesity as the existing condition. A person can be as few as 20 pounds overweight or as much as 100 pounds overweight and still be obese. I think the guy with the extra 20 pounds would probably last a long time, but the guy with the extra 100 pounds is probably close to a life threatening condition already.

The real problem is that by listing the existing conditions, it confuses how serious COVID is. This happens with other diseases also. Flu for example is much more deadly in the elderly and in people with compromised immune systems than it is in healthy younger people.

I remember one statement from an author asking if a person who is more than 80 can really be said to have died from anything other than old age.
I gotcha. My point, though, was that it wasn't only recently reported: the CDC has been publishing the same weekly report for four and half months. And they don't use their own fabricated classifications; what/how they report is structured by the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM)--soon to be the 11th revision, I think https://www.who.int/classifications/icd/en/--which standard is managed by the WHO. The CDC records influenza deaths the same way. And they get the data from the physician/hospital-filed death certificates, not from any polling or survey that the CDC does.

I can't say why this suddenly hit the limelight, but my guess is that some research intern at a local Fox affiliate looked at the August 26 weekly update--with no knowledge of or reference to all the 18 other weekly updates that have come out--and thought to himself, "Oh, wow!" The Fox affiliate had it online within a few hours, and boom, all over social media. President Trump even picked up on it. But it ain't new news.

Yeppers. I'm with you double-time. When I was much younger and lifted a lot more, I used to have this...discussion with a primary care doctor that I eventually dropped. Every time I'd go in, I'd get a lecture about being obese...per the BMI calculation which is also what the WHO goes by. I'd point out that I carried right around 10% body fat, and that muscle weighs about 20% more than fat...and then I'd offer to go out into the parking lot and lift the rear of a Honda Civic for him. Didn't matter. To him my BMI was over 30, therefore I was obese. But I would still keep that BMI-over-30 in that same physical condition if I was able now that I'm older; alas. Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson has a BMI of 32.

It's definitely an imperfect system, but I think the U.S. does it in a standardized fashion and as well as any place around the globe. And I think we're more transparent about the data than most. The Poynter Institute posted a fact-check piece on this yesterday: https://www.poynter.org/_______/2 ... 4-to-9210/. They quoted Dr. Mark Halstead, an associate professor of orthopedic surgery and pediatrics at Washington University, to show how conditions get listed on a death certificate:
“So, let’s say someone was admitted to the hospital because of symptoms of COVID. They test positive, so COVID would be listed,” Halstead said in the post. “Their case progressed where they developed respiratory failure and now are on a ventilator. Respiratory failure can be listed.”

Additional conditions may be listed on a patient’s death certificate during the course of their stay in the hospital. For example, if a COVID-19 patient ended up dying from cardiac arrest, that could also be included.

“So now three things are listed on their death certificate,” Halstead wrote. “The COVID infection started the process but that led to the heart and lungs failing, which killed that person.”
From the CDC/NCHS perspective, it makes sense to me that the only real data they can go by are death certificates. I don't know where else they could look. If a 95-year-old who has stage 4 cancer is admitted to a hospital due to COVID-19 (or influenza), is it realistic to think that the virus was the only thing that killed her? 'Course not. But I suppose the point is she had the virus so we can't say it wasn't a contributing factor; she may have lived a couple of months longer if she hadn't caught the virus. I also think it's going to be interesting when the seasonal flu gets in full swing and we have patients who have both the flu and are COVID-19 positive. Both may be on the death certificate, so do they count the death twice, once for the flu and once for COVID? Dunno...
