I was under the impression appellate courts rule on whether there were procedural errors, or the judge misinterpreted/misapplied the law, leading to a wrongful conviction. That, generally speaking, the appellant doesn't get a new trial to try a different defense strategy, simply because they talked ...

As of 7:30PM Sunday night, poll is 56.9% against background checks, 37.9 for, and 5.2 Unsure, would depend on specifics. Currently very small sample size. I wonder how many of the 37.9 don't realize there is already a background check? Although I'm one to wear out the Tracking Notice and wait anxio...

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/06/us/politics/congress-gun-control.html Republicans rally around gun control. Neither of which would have prevented the shooters from getting firearms. It does reduce the risk of good guys shooting bad guys. Which makes it logical for bad guys to rally around.
