Newly revealed e-mails show that former Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI) deputy director Andrew McCabe was keenly aware of CNN’s internal understanding of a secret briefing about the infamous Steele dossier, days before CNN published any stories on the matter. The e-mails, which were obtained by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.), also reveal that top officials used coded language to refer to the salacious and unverified allegations made by Steele.
I hate this, because I used to have such respect for the Security Branch of the DNC (AKA “FBI”). But I’m afraid that it has become entirely a political machine, used by the left to target opposition candidates. Whatever honest agents are left, who are still working on the various kinds of criminal investigations that are ACTUALLY part of agency’s mandate, must be feeling pretty much betrayed and left out in the cold by the filthy animals that pass themselves off as FBI leadership.
TAM, don't be discouraged by innuendo or conjecture from congress. Mueller has all the info and is making impressive progress. If FBI or DOJ is off base in any way his report will show it. It really makes no sense for congressional committees to be doing any intelligence investigations.
I total disagree with the congress not investigating intelligence matters. I no longer trust the FBI or the DOJ. I believe checks and balances are warranted.
Everything (and everywhere) is politics. At least congressional review is public or semi-public. Everything within FBI and DOJ is a black box and there is no telling what strings were pulled or leads were ignored to get a certain result.....
Congress has constitutional oversight powers, and
traditionally, the various committees which provide oversight to agencies like the IRS, the FBI, and the CIA
recieve cooperation from those agencies in matters of oversight. The
reasons the committees receive that cooperation are twofold:
- those agencies are mandated by law to cooperate; and
- Congress controls the pursestrings to their budgets, and has the power to “punish” said agencies for refusing to cooperate.
To the extent that any federal agency refuses to cooperate with the congressional committee charged with that agency’s oversight in specific matters, they are operating
outside of the law.
Under Obama, the FBI stonewalled a congressional committee requests for information relevant to investigations by that committee into the Clinton email scandal. Under Obama, the IRS stonewalled committee requests relevant to a congressional committee’s investigation into abuse of power over non-profit applications by conservative political groups. Under Obama, the DOJ stonewalled congressional committee investigations into criminal malfeasance by both ATF and FBI in the
Fast & Furious matter of illegal gun-running. Etc., etc., etc.
Under 8 years of Obama, federal agencies have learned that the law no longer applies to them -
even when the current POTUS or Congress tries to force compliance. How is that not a coup?
