Finally got the chance to put a couple hundred rounds through my Ruger PCC and the overall feeling is just....meh.

It functioned fine, seemed plenty accurate and wasn't uncomfortable to shoot or anything but I just found it utterly boring. About three mags into it and I found myself wondering why I even bought it.

I did find I missed not having a bolt release like the AR. I think that platform has me spoiled.

I might end up selling it. I don't know. I am very underwhelmed by it.
It ran fine and was accurate. I just didn't enjoy shooting it.
To each his own. I went into it with expectations already properly calibrated, so I was satisfied with what I bought. The last time I bought a rifle with optimistic expectations, it bit me on the butt. It's a pre-Remington JM stamped Marlin 1895G Guide Gun in 45-70.… and it’s still for sale.

I saw the TFB article, and that’s kind of cool. I haven’t looked at the copper customs offering yet, but will now. Thanks for the link. But, I’ll most likely keep mine stock. I have a number of "tacticool" firearms, but one of the things I appreciated about the PC9 when I bought mine is the more traditional stock and forend.
It is sweet in the traditional stock/forend. I saw one of the new models with the aluminum free-float handguard at Shoot Point Blank in Arlington...not sure it's worth the additional $90.
They tried to upsell me to that model at Shoot Point Blank in NRH, where I bought mine. I actually preferred the look of the plain Jane model, and I have no plans to weight this one down with a bunch of accessories, so no need for that aluminum handguard. The only thing I’ve added to it is a Primary Arms RDS. I may add a flashlight, but maybe not. This is not my primary SD/HD long gun. I have AR15s for that role, and they’re already gussied up. I bought it exactly for what it is—a fairly light plinker of opportunity, that I can store in "stealth mode" in its compact carrying case in my vehicle, that will extend the capabilities of my Glock carry pistols if needed, and is perhaps less "threatening" looking to the casual observer.

Even with the difference in $$$ I had narrowed it down to the SPX or Benelli M4. Thanks to some advice from AndyC and a bit of luck I waited and ended up with Benelli’s M2 3-gun.

I very happy with it and glad I didn’t go with the pistol grip on a shotgun. I wasn’t sure about it then and still haven’t tried one, but something about a pistol grip on a shotgun doesn’t sit right with me. IDK
I've seen your Benelli M2. First time I ever saw a tactical shotgun used to shoot skeet.

I would have been happy to own a Benelli M2 or M4, but I didn't have Benelli money. I do own a Benelli SBE II for skeet/dove hunting, but I took that one in barter for some website work I did for a local FFL.

Tuning and customization links:
OR3Gun. At the least, their MST is a very worthwhile investment.

Hahn Precision Safety Rail combo
This is nice because (depending on the length of your fingers, mine are "average") you can work the safety using the PG stock.
https://hahn-precision.com/mossberg-m590a1-safety-rail/

I replaced my piston with the NiBo coated JM Pro version, and swapped out my mag tube with a stainless 9200 version. Definitely easier to clean. SBE Precision has been boosting their piston, and I'm tempted to try it out. A couple of friends and I ran 750 rounds of mixed Suprema field loads(600 or so rounds), and a few boxes of Remington 00 and slugs in around 40 minutes, with no hiccups. I'd be curious to see if this actually does keep more gunk off the tube than the MST alone.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm probably going to eventually swap out the pistol grip stock for a standard one. In the meantime, I've already purchased an Elite Tactical oversized safety switch for it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XV ... UTF8&psc=1. I have one like it on my 590A1.

I actually just now ordered the takedown carrying case from the Ruger website.
I received Ruger PCC Takedown Case today. Somewhat disappointing that none of the magazine slots accommodate 33 round magazines.
May require taking a razor blade to open up the bottom on two or three of the slots
Mine came in while I was still in the hospital, and frankly, I just haven’t had the energy yet to tackle sorting it all out.
Hope you regain shooting strength soon! I've also added a charging handle on the left side, a magazine funnel and extended magazine release to my PCC.
Where did you find the mag funnel and extended mag release?

I have actually seen the same thing with 30 round Magpul 5.56 magazines in a 7.5" bbl AR pistol and so I have standardized on twenty rounders for that small gun.

For reliability reasons I feel its better to stick with shorter mags and simply practice combat reloads. YMMV.
Yeah, I agree. The stick mags work just fine in my pistols, but I'll likely stick to G17 Mags for the carbine going forward. It makes it much handier anyway.
You should get a Glock Drum Mag... Now that's a range day.....
So far, I’ve resisted the temptation to buy drum mags for my ARs or my AK. I probably won’t get one for my Glocks or the PC9. Too heavy, and I don’t mind changing smaller capacity magazines.

Re: 2 New Guns: a Ruger PC9 carbine, and a Mossberg 930 SPX

I shot the Ruger today for the first time, just to get a feel for it. I shot a combination of 115 grain ball, and 147 grain subsonic ball - both suppressed and unsuppressed. It was at an indoor range, and I shot targets at 15, 20, and 25 yards.

Conditions weren’t ideal, as the lighting could have been brighter, and I had a little trouble picking up a clean sight picture. I believe that the OEM iron sights would have given me less trouble outdoors. Also, I shot without any kind of rifle rest, so I was a little wobbly today. Those are my excuses, and I’m sticking to them.

Although I struggled with the available light, the position of the stock relative to the sights was about perfect. The ghost ring rear really does draw the eye in to the front sight...I just had trouble picking out the front sight against the background. I didn’t bring a ruler, but the best groups were a guesstimated 1”-1.5” for 5 rounds at 25 yards. I’m sure I could do better under better conditions.

The trigger was fairly crisp and not too heavy. Recoil consisted of a small bump against the shoulder… less than an AR15, but more than a .22.

With the suppressor mounted (a Rugged Obsidian45, with a fixed spacer replacing the spring on the piston), groups seemed to improve a little bit over unsurpassed fire, and recoil was noticeably diminished when suppressed. Although I was unable to test the theory due to range rules and the presence of other shooters, I’d wager that it would have been totally hearing-safe with the subsonic ammo.

I shot about 75 rounds with 3 malfunctions toward the end, consisting of a spent case jammed in the ejection port, with a live round chambered. To clear, I locked the bolt back, dropped the magazine, released the bolt forward to capture the chambered round with the extractor, and reinserted the mag. All three stoppages occurred with the 33 round Glock factory fun-stick. The other magazine I was using was a 17-round Magpul unit, and it ran just fine. I THINK the stoppages happened because I was supporting the weight of the rifle on the end of the stick magazine. The magazines aren’t an extremely tight fit, and there’s a little bit of room for some wiggle if lateral pressure is applied against the magazine body. The shorter magazine wasn’t affected because the gun's weight wasn’t resting on the mag. I’ve seen a couple of reviews where the reviewer experienced the same kind of malfunctions, with the 33 round mags only.

Also, by the time the jams happened, the gun was getting pretty dirty inside from the suppressor, and an alternative theory is that the stoppages were due to a filthy gun. But I get the sense that the gun would run like a top from now until Kingdom come, using 17 round mags and less time with the suppressor mounted.

For my next outing, I’ll have a Primary Arms RDS mounted to the rail, and I expect that I’ll have an easier time aiming. All in all though, it was a lot of fun to shoot, and I’m very happy with my purchase. Although the Ruger is heavier, it reminds me very much of shooting my M1 carbine, and that M1 always puts a smile on my face.

I really debated with myself over whether to buy the 930 SPX with the standard stock, or the pistol grip stock. In the end, I was able to buy this one for not a lot more than the standard version, and I kind of liked the alternative color scheme....nothing more than that. Like I said, I figured I’d just try it out configured that way, and if I ended up not liking the pistol grip, it would be easy enough to swap out.

The stock sights are pretty darn good, and I’ve run both stock and red dot and scope. All work really well with this platform. I grabbed a couple of 32 and 17 round off brand glock mags from Gun mag warehouse and they’ve all run just fine.
I tend to buy 9mm ball by the 1000 round case, and have a goodly amount of it on hand already.....but yeah....I realized that I’ll be needing to step up my ammo purchase game. As to an RDS, I have a Primary Arms one that has been sitting unused on a Kel-Tec Sub-2000 that I plan to transfer to the PC9 - although, I have to say that I like the iron sights a lot. I’m already pretty well situated with Glock mags, although that could change if I like this gun enough.
