Re: Corona Virus (COVID-19)( SARS-CoV-2) from China: Its going to be bad.

The Annoyed Woman and I are currently experiencing the after effects of COVID-19. I came down with it on Tuesday 08/16, and my wife came down with it a couple of days later. I went back to work on 08/30. It pretty much sucks, but it isn’t the end of the world. It felt like a bad flu, and it seemed to last a bit longer. The bigger problem (for me) has been the lingering after effects. I still have a productive cough; I tire easily and quickly; my senses of taste and smell aren’t gone, but they’re diminished; and my mental acuity seems a bit diminished. A nurse practitioner told me just yesterday that these after effects will probably linger for 2-3 months, but they will eventually disappear.

On the upside, my post-bariatric surgery weight loss accelerated as my appetite almost completely disappeared for 2 weeks. Even now, 3 weeks later, I kind of make myself eat. Also, it has been helpful that I've been consuming a LOT of vitamins daily as part of my post-surgery regimen.

FWIW, both my wife and I had the first 2 vaccinations. I have no idea what variant we caught. I only know I had Covid because a home test was positive.

Re: Corona Virus (COVID-19)( SARS-CoV-2) from China: Its going to be bad.

I got my 1st Pfizer this morning at Globe Life Field. My upper right arm is a little bit sore, but I’m otherwise OK. My doctor's office doesn’t have the vaccine yet and doesn’t know when they’ll get it. I tried CVS, because the one I use is like 3 blocks from my house in NRH, but they’re booked up indefinitely at most of their locations. The few that aren’t are too far away to be a realistic alternative. So I signed up with the Tarrant County vaccination program, and Ranger Stadium was where they sent me.

Re: Corona Virus (COVID-19)( SARS-CoV-2) from China: Its going to be bad.

I ran across this article this morning. The '68/69 school year was my junior year of high school. Like the article's author, I remember a LOT of things from back then....but I don’t remember a pandemic, or any panic generated by one.
https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/artic ... -the-havoc
My junior and senior years in high school were 1968 and 1969; five decades later, I can still remember some of the main events of that era: the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy, the bombing of Cambodia, the Apollo 8 spaceflight that orbited the moon, and Woodstock, which I pleaded with my parents to let me attend. (They said no.)

In my personal life, I remember playing on the basketball team, buying my first car, working in my family’s corner grocery store and wishing I had the nerve to ask certain girls out on a date. Here’s what I don’t remember: the pandemic of 1968-1969.
Draw your own conclusions, but there’s some credible evidence that lockdowns ultimately don’t work; and the damage they do can be greater and longer lasting than the disease itself.

They may work on the individual micro level, as individuals decide for themselves how to respond, but they probably don’t work very well on a policy level. I did not arrive at this intuitively. I have a healthy instinct for self preservation, and I have acted accordingly in my own life. But I’m NOT convinced that the policy positions being taken, ESPECIALLY those being enforced by totalitarian minded governors, have been anything other than damaging to the nation's future stability.

Saturday Texas reports the largest single day jump in Coronavirus cases.

It even made drudge above the headline. Will they have a companion piece tomorrow.

Sunday Texas reports the largest single day percentage decrease in Coronavirus cases.
Remember, Drudge ain’t what it used to be. They have effectively switched sides: all anti-Trump all the time and all Coronavirus all the time.

Rumor is that Drudge sold the site. I find lots of supposition to that effect, but cannot find proof. Either way, I no longer read Drudge. I now visit the Bongino Report as my favorite news aggregator.
Thanks for the link. I can’t stand looking at drudge anymore. It’s like the Inquirer became a news aggregator.

My mom lives in an assisted living facility in Pasadena, California. She’s 95. Initially, the home was put on "external" lockdown, meaning no outside visitors. This even included no immediate family, so my two younger brothers who both live locally were no longer allowed in to check on her. Then, on 3/29, the home had its first case—a food server in the kitchen was sent home after not feeling well, who tested positive for COVID-19 afterward. Apparently, transmission from food handling is a lower risk (I don’t know why) than social proximity, and as far as I know, nobody in that home has come down with COVID-19. So from THAT perspective, she’s safe. But it’s not enough.

Here’s my mom's concern.... and I confess that the idea hadn’t even occurred to me until she brought it up.... She has been declining more rapidly lately, and showing signs of dementia and chronic UTI. Her main pleasures in life at this point have been gathering for meals in the dining room and visiting with the other residents, and playing Scrabble with a small group friends (a game at which she is ruthless and very good). But ever since that employee got sick, the residents are on complete lockdown in their rooms. Their meals are being brought to them, and they’re not allowed outside of their rooms....so no visiting and companionship. She knows that her remaining time in this life is very short. She tearfully told me back around 4/1 that she doesn’t want her life to end this way—locked down, and separated from her family and friends.

I can’t begin to express how deeply this bothers me.
There is much more to life than just "living". Our society seems to be forgetting this very important detail.
Whether or not life is WORTH living is important too. And that decision can on,y be made by the individual. I wonder what the facility would do if my brothers decided along with my mom to take her into one of their own homes. Would the facility let her go? Would they try to stop my brothers through legal means?

CNN raising the death toll predictions from early opening.

I read that a full 1/3 of deaths in the US were in nursing homes.

Did anyone do anything to limit deaths in nursing homes where people don’t leave their rooms?

Not a thing.

Lost some ground today.
Houston Police Officers Union's response to Judge Hidalgo's draconian mask order:
"Now we want to be very clear, the Houston Police Officers’ Union believes everyone should be wearing a mask in public, in order to protect themselves from the virus and we are encouraging all of our officers to wear a mask. However, we draw the line at the draconian measures Hidalgo has decided to engage in."
In response to zero-experience, royal-blue, 28-year-old Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo's order, Galveston County Judge Mark Henry says any mandatory mask order is unconstitutional and that Galveston County will not be issuing one.

FYI, O'Reilly didn’t write that. It apparently first appeared as a Facebook post by someone named Jack Chapin, and has been misattributed to O'Reilly. For once, I’m inclined to believe Snopes, as the writing style doesn’t "sound" like O'Reilly's.

MADISON - A high school sophomore sued the Marquette County sheriff Thursday after he threatened to take her or her family to jail for her post on Instagram warning that she believed she had been infected with coronavirus.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Milwaukee with the help of the conservative Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty, argues the jail threat violated the teen’s right to free speech. The case raises questions about First Amendment protections in the middle of a pandemic.

For those that are still confused, let me help spell it out for you....

The Corona Rules:
1. Basically, you can't leave the house for any reason, but if you have to, then you can.
2. Masks are useless, but maybe you have to wear one, it can save you, it is useless, but maybe it is mandatory as well.
3. Stores are closed, except those that are open.
4. You should not go to hospitals unless you have to go there. Same applies to doctors, you should only go there in case of emergency, provided you are not too sick.
5. This virus is deadly but still not too scary, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster.
6. Gloves won't help, but they can still help.
7. Everyone needs to stay HOME, but it's important to GO OUT.
8. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarket, but there are many things missing when you go there in the evening, but not in the morning. Sometimes.
9. The virus has no effect on children except those it affects.
10. Animals are not affected, but there is still a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there…
11. You will have many symptoms when you are sick, but you can also get sick without symptoms, have symptoms without being sick, or be contagious without having symptoms. Oh, my..
12. In order not to get sick, you have to eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand and it's better not to go out, well, but no…
13. It's better to get some fresh air, but you get looked at very wrong when you get some fresh air, and most importantly, you don't go to parks or walk. But don’t sit down, except that you can do that now if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant (but not too old).
14. You can't go to retirement homes, but you have to take care of the elderly and bring food and medication.
15. If you are sick, you can't go out, but you can go to the pharmacy.
16. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house, which may have been prepared by people who didn't wear masks or gloves. But you have to have your groceries decontaminated outside for 3 hours. Pizza too?
17. Every disturbing article or disturbing interview starts with " I don't want to trigger panic, but…"
18. You can't see your older mother or grandmother, but you can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver.
19. You can walk around with a friend but not with your family if they don't live under the same roof.
20. You are safe if you maintain the appropriate social distance, but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance.
21. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours, no, four, no, six, no, we didn't say hours, maybe days? But it takes a damp environment. Oh no, not necessarily.
22. The virus stays in the air - well no, or yes, maybe, especially in a closed room, in one hour a sick person can infect ten, so if it falls, all our children were already infected at school before it was closed. But remember, if you stay at the recommended social distance, however in certain circumstances you should maintain a greater distance, which, studies show, the virus can travel further, maybe.
23. We count the number of deaths but we don't know how many people are infected as we have only tested so far those who were "almost dead" to find out if that's what they will die of…
24. We have no treatment, except that there may be one that apparently is not dangerous unless you take too much (which is the case with all medications).
25. We should stay locked up until the virus disappears, but it will only disappear if we achieve collective immunity, so when it circulates… but we must no longer be locked up for that?
Tweeted.

Back to lurking...
There is some importance to the US WRT the worldwide numbers, and also the numbers in specific countries.

One of the reasons the foreign and global numbers are important is that they have some predictive values for us. For instance, China just acknowledged earlier today (https://news.trust.org/item/20200404235657-jkjit) that they are experiencing a resurgence of new cases, after having previously claimed that they had beaten the pandemic in their country. Does that mean that WE may see a resurgence in numbers of cases after a respite? Either way, it’s a question worth investigating, just to be safe.

Another reason foreign numbers are important is that pandemics can be precursors for economic collapse, civil unrest, revolutions, and other catastrophic political changes around the world. And as much as we’d like to think that we are immune from the effects of these things, in a global economy, we aren’t. In fact, IF the pandemic's impact in our own country were bad enough, those things could happen here.....although I am hopeful that they would not.

Anyway, my point is that, on some levels, the COVID-19 statistics abroad may well have some kind of significance here at home.

Just a thought...

The Real Coronavirus Chronology Shows Trump Was On Top Of It While Biden Was Mocking The Danger
The leftist national media incessantly reports that the spread of the coronavirus is, well, President Trump’s fault. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, always good for the most incendiary and least helpful comments in any difficult situation, said on Sunday, “[T]he president — his denial at the beginning was deadly.”

Then in Joe Biden’s latest effort to be relevant, his campaign has released an ad attacking President Trump for not being sufficiently responsive to the threats of the coronavirus from the “beginning.”
I’d quote the whole article if I could. Facts are often inconvenient things, and they are nearly ALWAYS inconvenient to anything spoken by democrats.
