Re: AR-15: Cartridge stuck in chamber

Really wouldn't surprise me. I've seen soldiers grind their bolt-face on concrete to break up the carbon. "Cleans faster this way, Sarge!" :eek6

Re: 1911 Carry

Of all the holsters I've used, My Milt Sparks VM2 is by far my favorite. I've run the gamut from one I made myself, to Tucker. Leather, and Kydex. IWB, OWB, Paddle, belt-slide, tuckable, etc. Should I ever pick another pistol for carry, the first thing I'll do is order another VM2 for it.

Re: High end 1911 debate...

Pretty sure you'll be happy as a pig in mud. I dropped a load of cash on a Nighthawk Custom Enforcer (bobtailed) as a gift to myself for surviving OIF3. Am I likely to ever spend that much on a firearm again? Probably not. Do I have any complaints about the pistol? Not a single one. It has run silky...

Re: AR-15: Cartridge stuck in chamber

On the cleanliness bit, I never once subscribed to the white-glove nonsense (and never once saw a rifle that was spotless). Nor did I ever have a malfunction caused by anything but a magazine (and I forced that to happen to illustrate why the magazine is not a grip). This was true for my rifle, or t...

Re: Back in the USA

Thanks for the warm welcome back folks, sorry I didn't respond sooner - I've been busy clearing out of active duty. I did re-enlist, for the Texas National Guard, and as a perk for transitioning from active duty get to enjoy not deploying for 24 months (or 9 months longer than I have left in the mil...

Back in the USA

Flew in Saturday, this soldier's occupation of Iraq is over for good, finally. Mostly I've subsisted on steak and beer since I landed, and as all good soldiers do, I've spent entirely too much money in the last few days. Soon enough I'll clear out of the Army, and head back to Texas. For now, Georgi...

Re: The 1911 Summer Challenge of 2008...

When I first started carrying, it was my 1911 all the time. Milt Sparks Summer Special. Blued Combat Commander, no problems with corrosion, just wiped it down with a silicone impregnated cloth at the end of the day. Now that I tend to be on two wheels more often than not, I can't come up with a viab...

Re: No more American Shooting Center (Houston) for me...

Chances are I will not be shooting there when I lose my active duty military status, it was rather painful to shell out their fees before I was a soldier, and for all the restrictions I just can't see myself paying that again. Of course, I'll be moving to Austin when I get out of the Army anyway, so...

Re: Tactical Question about home defense...

In Executive Protection we have something called the "HOME" Principle, which simply states, staying put if you have the Principal in tow (or in your case your family members) with a solid defensive position with solid cover and good lanes of fire, most often, this includes the control of ...

Re: Harassing the new guys

We sent a new joe on a mission for a box of grid squares just after I pinned on SGT in '06. Apparently his Dad was a retired CSM. PVT Joe Snuffy came back w/ a 1:50,000th map, cut up into grid squares - all in a box. Said "I guess you didn't have any serious work for me to do, so I spent all da...

Run For the Fallen

Run For the Fallen will honor 1LT Michael J. Cleary, one of the fine men the 1st Battalion 15th Infantry Regiment lost in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom III, as well as the many others to have fallen during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Though I will not be cleared out of the Army in time to star...

Re: Gunny Comments on Glock

No disagreement at all, I just find it curious when ease of training is brought up as a positive. I've personally never met a firearm that was difficult to understand, but I've never met a .mil training course that was worth the time spent either. The basic rules of firearm safety never cease to app...

Re: Gunny Comments on Glock

to compensate for a lack of training typically. The kind of lack in training most soldiers have with pistols? Consider this - even WITH a manual safety, officers in theater (those most commonly issued pistols) account for the largest percentage of negligent discharges. Lots of clearing barrels with...

Re: How are you spending your welfare check?

I voted for black rifle, because I guess I might. Really I'll probably do what they want us to do least - save it.
