A few weeks ago I get a package in the mail from the NRA. You can tell there’s a DVD in it. Didn’t open it.

Now today I get a letter, “we sent you an DVD. Either pay $14 for it, or return it”.

Oh heck no! I’m going with option 3 – keep the unsolicited DVD and watch it…or not… and I still haven't opened it.
i've now gotten a "follow up" letter saying send it back or pay $14. oh, and the $14 goes to putting me on the list to receive new dvd's as they come out. so return it, or pay to get more dvd's you don't want. nice.

i'm still going with option 3.
I got a 3rd letter today demanding $ :banghead:

so i wrote up a little note...

"You have sent me an unsolicited DVD.

Under the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970, I am neither obligated to pay for it, nor to return it.

If you persist in demanding payment, I will file a formal complaint with my local postmaster."
That's ridiculous. Just keep it, they can't do a thing, and maybe enough do they'll quite this stuff.

Yup...best thing to do with any unsolicited book or DVD from anyone. When I called them about it a couple of years ago, they claimed it was being done by a subcontracted marketing co without their knowledge. Makes you wonder now.

Re: NRA Marketing Tactic

(1) When you look under FAQ's it tells you to send am e-mail to an address to opt out of marketing (2) I told them on the phone I wanted to be put on their don't call list when I kept getting solicitations. It had been several years ago since I opted out, I was thinking it was a check box. Still don't know that it wasn't back when I did it, but either way I opted out. The point was not HOW I opted out, but the audacity of when they called again recently, and I said "I am supposed to be on your don't call list" for him to say "Oh I know, but this is so important that we thought you needed to know it" then went on to tell me that without my help, the UN will ban all guns.

Re: NRA Marketing Tactic

I went into my account and selected all the no solicitation boxes and they droppedd to zero. A few months ago out of the blue I got a call asking for a donation. I informed them that I was on their "don't call list" but he said "Oh we know, but this is so important that we thought you'd want to know. i called the Life Member helpline and asked them if they would like my life membership back. Even she (acted anyway) couldn't believe they did or said that and said it was a 3rd party marketer and they would be dealing with them. No more since.

Re: NRA Marketing Tactic

Got a call from NRA Life Members line today apologizing for the mailing. If I understood her correctly, it appears that NRA hired a marketing company and had not authorized this. She said they need to call and straighten this out. I am sure it is a good product and may have purchased had it been advertised, I just hate to see NRA doing something beneath the dignity of such an organization. I know some here have mentioned "NRA bashing" but I do not see this as bashing at all. Unless we talk with them, they cannot know what is on our minds. As a life member, I know our calls mean something, as we get to vote on board members. If we find that current board members voted to do this sort of thing, then we have the option of not voting for them. I fail to see this as bashing, but as doing our jobs as members.

NRA Marketing Tactic

I was shocked that today I received an unsolicited package from NRA.... a DVD on home defense with a letter requesting $12.95 along with a mailer to return it if I did not want it. I was disappointed that the NRA would resort to this sort of thing. The DVD is probably good and could have been advertised for free on their e-mailings or magazine. I called and told them I would return this one, but to be advised I was keeping all future ones. She apologized and said that I could keep this one and no more would be sent to me.

I hope that should anyone also be appalled, that you call as well rather than just send it back. Otherwise, they may continue such.
