Re: VA: Tazewell County Forms Militia in Response to New Virginia Gun Laws

IIRC, according to USC Title 10, the Militia (according to Federal Law) is defined as the Organized Militia which consists of the National Guard and the Unorganized Militia consists of all able bodied males over the age of 17 who are not members of the regular or reserve military or members of the N...

Re: TX: Mooney Aircraft in Kerrville shuts down

Unfortunately, general aviation has just gotten too expensive for the average guy. When I first started flying in 1971, a nice Piper Cherokee 140 rented for $15 per hour wet and am older Cessna 150 rented for $5 per hour plus gas which was about .35 per gallon and running rich used about 8 gallons a...

Re: Pistol Caliber Carbine Roundup

Please don't judge me, but I have a Hi-Point 9mm carbine (picked it up for $75) that is really a lot of fun to shoot and reasonably accurate out to 50 yards. It is several years old and I refer to it as my "Planet of the Apes" carbine. Only real gripe I have with it is that it is a bear to disassemb...

Re: Driving safety to Las Cruces, NM

Just went I-10 to and from El Paso about 2 weeks ago. No issues and traffic was no too bad. Most of the construction on the west side of El Paso is done. Coming back, remember the immigration check point near Sierra Blanca. Don't mess with those guys, just say US Citizen. Only issue I have ever had ...

Re: After Virginia win, Bloomberg groups targeting Texas

Remember that all politics are local (at least at the start). Check out the TSRA alert about the Harris County Commissioners meeting for tomorrow (12 Nov). The County Commissioners will be discussing a resolution to DEMAND Universal Background Checks in Texas. For those living in Harris County, plea...

Re: Range Instruction Content for Online LTC Proficiency Test

I have done a couple of these. I use the same curriculum and slides as I use for the Handgun Use and Safety portion of my LTC course which is usually about 1 to 1.25 hours long. Then we do the Proficiency Demonstration and I sign the instruction and proficiency sections of the LTC 101 (and make a co...

Re: Guns & Ammo's annual ranking of gun-friendly states

I wish people would stop considering DC equivalent to a state. It is a city! I think they should give the current city BACK to Maryland like they did with the portion of DC that was on the south side of the Potomac when they gave that back to Virginia. Then STOP the statehood for DC push!

Re: Question

Have had a Texas CHL/LTC since 1996. Since then, I have had a number of encounters with LE. Luckily none ended with an actual ticket, but a few did result in a warning. IANAL, but recommendation I make to my students is ALWAYS provide information on your LTC as well as the status of whether or not y...

Re: Fort Wolters

Got scared out of my mind one day while on a student solo VFR cross country in 1971 flying from Denton, TX, to Wichita Falls to Abilene and back to Denton. On the leg from Abilene to Denton, was flying through the MOA above Fort Wolters about 5500 feet and looked below me and saw literally 100+ heli...

Ammo is like fuel. The only time you have too much is when you are on fire.
