Re: Deadline for class

I'm not saying it should or shouldn't, I'm saying it will be. I'm just stating the facts, which the fact is that they are still actively honoring the 1 year grace period & will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Personally, I'd be cool with them making people re-apply as new apps & forced to take the course over even if 1 day after they expire, but that's just personal opinion. The hard reality is that they are currently honoring the grace period & will continue to do so.

Re: Deadline for class

It's a public relations thing- no way DPS would turn down a renewal that is 1-2 days past their expiration date. We all know many humans procrastinate in general, & there's tons of license holders that renew after they expire. The public would be furious if they did away with the grace period. It also makes DPS look very "anti-gun" to turn down all those renewals. I say no way they drop the grace period anytime soon. If someone on this forum had an older family member who forgot about their renewal & tried to renew 1 day after they expire & were told NO- they would be furious at DPS & probably post their anger on this forum.

Re: Deadline for class

The 1 year renewal grace period is still posted on DPS website plain as day. Texas Administrative Code 6.15. look up the admin code from their site.

Re: Deadline for class

They wouldn't be able to handle all the angry renewals that would bombard them. There's tons of people who wait until after their expiration dates. Can you imagine how mad a person would get if their CHL expired & they tried to renew 2 days after and were told No.? I don't see them doing away with the one year grace period anytime soon.

Re: Deadline for class

I can tell you the rule: 2 years for CHL-100, 1 year grace period for renewals, 1 year for web app payment, 90 days for missing/incomplete documents/fees. I promise I'm right about this. You can call anyone at their customer line & they'd tell you the same.

Re: Deadline for class

Ok let me try this one more time, & I apologize if I sound redundant. Let me give you an example. Let's say I want to appt for a new CHL. I'm just a regular standard applicant, born in USA, not military, nada, just a regular Joe. Let's say I go online, enter my information & pay the application fee to the state via credit card. Let's say I did this on June 1, 2014. Now, I never printed anything nor mailed, emailed or faxed anything to DPS. I haven't even taken the course yet.. Let's fast forward to April 2015, I suddenly remember I paid online back in June of 2014, I run take my course, get my CHL-100, & I mail it to the state. I also go get my prints taken at L1. I promise you 100%, they would not terminate my pending online payment in this scenario. Now, let's say I took the course back in June & I mailed my CHL-100 form but forgot to sign it. They would send me a 90 day letter to correct that or else my whole app is terminated. Big difference.

Re: Deadline for class

I'll see what I can dig up, but just for people's knowledge, I know for right now & the foreseeable future they are honoring the 1 year web app payment period. If or when that ever stops being honored I'll be the first to post on the forum.

Re: Deadline for class

I'm not sure the admin code off hand, but I happen to know 100% certain for fact that the online payment is good for one year. Now, if they send in their documents (CHL-100, DD-214, BOC doc, etc) & there's an issue, they get sent a 90 day letter to correct issue. If they don't comply then their app in terminated. But, a person can pay online Jan. 2, 2014 & wait until Dec. 31, 2014 to send their documents if they chose & they'll be ok. I promise this is the reality.

Re: Deadline for class

The CHL-100 is good for 2 years, the online payment is good for 1 year. The 90 day thing is if someone sent an incomplete app & they get a written notice to send docs, get new prints, etc. They have 90 days to correct their app or else it gets terminated & they must start over from scratch.
