I can see the logic behind suing the cops who shot him. I can even see the logic behind suing the employee, if they lied about the facts during the 911 call. I don't see any reason (except greed) to sue the company unless they have a policy encouraging employees to lie to 911.

No it's not, but they have a valid point. The coverage would probably be very different if Mr. Scott had been a West Point graduate of color, just as their coverage of the CT murderer (and beer thief) would have been different if he was Euro-American and shot coworkers with a different ethnic background.

It might if the people involved in the shooting had to pay the judgment out of their own pockets but that's not how it works.
