Re: So what's the deal with knives now?

A double edged auto might still get you in trouble in TX

Edited to add 5.5 in is ok. Over that is the problem.

Oh and all the while carrying my AR15

Re: Doing my first IDPA match this Wednesday

My advice, be safe, have fun. Also, be quick to tape targets and stick around to help tear down. Alot of matches will have get togethers after. Go. Personally I just taped targets at the first match I went to. I also picked out the local hot shot that taught and took his course prior to my first liv...

Re: Shoot... Don't Shoot?

I would guess that for those times where you didnt feel the need to report the incident you probably didnt have cause to use deadly force. For example a guy with murder in his eye approaches you with an impact weapon yelling he is going to kill you. There is enough distance and obstacles between you...

Re: Shoot... Don't Shoot?

Just the fact that an LEO open carries should tell you that LEO's and non LEO's operate under different laws. From your example I would say a DA could make a case for failure to conceal. If verbal threats alone are not sufficient for use of deadly force then I dont see how just being approached coul...

Re: Shoot... Don't Shoot?

Hotlead said in part, "Also consider this: We do not operate under any different laws than LEOs. There are many times that a LEO unholsters a weapon in response to a unarmed threat. Remember there is a difference between unholstering a weapon, pointing a weapon, and using the weapon." Oh m...

Re: Shoot... Don't Shoot?

I for one cant change a shoot decision to a noshoot decision. A draw decision is a very grey area to me and would have to be discussed within a very tight context. I'm a bit confused from something my CHL instructor said in class. I understood him to say "never, never draw your weapon unless yo...

Re: Need suggestion for a bad habit

This is a really good post. The ball /dummy drill especially. You can also have someone mix in a snapcap in your mag and see what the sights do when you reach the snapcap. If you are "timing the gun" then a dive when you hit the snapcap might not actually be a problem. Some of the things t...

Re: Back door deterrence

Then again perhaps, all your guest sees is you "cleaning" your loaded shot gun and he yells gun and makes a .9 draw from concealment and puts 2 in your head. You wont be interested in the arguments he has with a grand jury later. A guy taps on the back sliding glass window of your house an...

Re: Back door deterrence

So are you in fear of your life because someone knocks on your door ? Or is the guy knocking on your door in fear of his life because you are racking a shotgun right before his eyes ? For me, if the threat is serious enough to show a gun, it is serious enough to shoot. If it is not serious enough to...

I was addressing the carrying an illegal knife or club not having it in your car. My discussion with the chl attorney predated the MPA.
