Re: Introduce yourself

thatguyoverthere wrote:Well, looks like I did just like "treadlightly" above. Didn't see this section, so just joined the forum and started slinging some stuff out there without proper introductions. My apologies.

As for me, I'm an old man, still working my day job (hopefully gonna fix that this year maybe). Been shooting for many years, but self-taught, no formal training (so watch out!). Fortunately for me, I've always lived out in the country, so I can literally just step off the back porch and start blastin'. Went to an actual official shooting range for the first time in my life just a couple of weeks ago.

Started getting interested in self-defense shooting lately. Like I've said before, I'm too old to take a beat down, and too fat to run away, so had to start looking at other options. Anyway, other than the serious self-defense type stuff, I mostly just like to hear the bang, and feel the kick, and see stuff blow up. Good ol' redneck fun, I guess.

Other than shooting, me and Momma like taking trips on our Harley. That's lots, of fun, too. Plus, hangin' with our 7 & 9 year old grandsons (that's the BEST!). Plus, I'm still working full time. Interferes a lot with the stuff I WANT be doing!

I don't expect to be posting a whole lot, but I do browse & read & lurk and whole lot. Lots of good information here, and a lot of my questions have already been asked by someone else, so I just poke around till I find what I'm looking for, normally.

And I can tell already that this is a great forum. I've been on a couple of motorcycle forums, and there are some REAL attitudes on some of those. It can get real ugly, real quick sometimes. Haven't seen that here the short time I've been here. And believe me, that's a good thing!

Anyway, looking forward to learning a lot of good stuff from you good folks here. And maybe every now and then I might come up with something worthy to add to the mix myself.
Welcome! I have to agree, the grand kids are the best part!

treadlightly wrote:Whoops, didn't see this introduction area - I just lurked a little and dove in. Hope that wasn't taken the wrong way.

I'm 59, seems more like 29, I'm very slow in competitive shooting but my accuracy isn't quite so bad. Broadsides of barns should quiver at my near approach, and I believe given a bass fiddle I could hit most any bull in the butt if he would stand still and pose.

I shoot a Colt Series 70 Government Model I've had since about 1977, and we have a working arrangement. I don't claim expertise. She hits the targets if I just sort of hook the reins on the front sight and let her do her work.

During the week, I'm a Unix admin wishing I were out on a lake. Weekends, I'm a Unix admin wishing I were at the range.

It's a life, but I'd trade it for more sailing and shooting.

And all the time I'm a Unix admin with deep respect for freedom, America, and our best ideals.

I appreciate your hospitality here. Nice place.
Welcome! I'm trying to remember 59 much less 29. I do have faint recollections of last week!

I'm a 50-something "Grammie", married, 2 sons, 2 step-daughters, grandson, granddaughter, and 3 four-legged kids. I'm a middle school teacher (choir - hence the user name). I've had my CHL since February and currently my EDC is a Colt Mustang. I'm saving my pennies for a PPS though.

Thanks to all for this great resource! :thumbs2:

Carry: Nothing for carry yet, but want to get XD9sc for EDC and an LCP or a smaller 9mm for "active" days (mountain biking, running, etc.) Currently have Beretta M9A1 that I want to sell for the XD9sc ;-)

I've been a lurker on here for a few weeks now, so I figured it was time I said hello :patriot: I'm interested in learning more about and getting involved in competitions and taking more advanced classes. I've been a hunter my whole life (grew up in the Rocky Mountains of Idaho) and stopped shooting for about a decade while going to school and starting to work. I just started getting back into shooting / hunting last year...loving it and kicking myself for ever taking a break :banghead:

My current gun inventory:
Beretta M9A1
Daniel Defense M4 V3
Remington 12 gauge
Remington 10/22 rifle
Custom made 30-06 (my dad and I made it when I was younger, need to get the details on the action, apparently it's special for some reason)

My future (soon) additions to my gun inventory:
XD9 (maybe XDm) (not sure if I want service or compact size)
XD9sc (EDC)
Smith and Wesson Model 22A
LCP / LC9 / PF9 / PM9 / CM9 / Nano / ???

Welcome, Superman! My daughter graduated from DBU as did her husband. Great school!

Just extending a greeting to the forum. I've been active in shooting sports since I was a kid and the passion continues. But after moving to the great state of Texas I let my license go and have recently had the itch to get it back.
