Re: New online CHL application & procedures

timsatx wrote:So how does the system determine a regular renewal vs a renewal with Honorably Discharged Veteran and charge accordingly?
Was your previous license discounted? Then they already have the proof.

Otherwise, I don't know for sure, but it's possible they ask if any discounts apply, then let you know what proof is needed.

Re: New online CHL application & procedures

Just go here...

https://txapps.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/chl/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sign in, select renew, follow instructions. Pay online fee.
No class or shooting or fingerprints or pictures needed (usually).

Easy-Peasy.

No need to fill out paper forms.

The CHL-100 may be sent along with any other required documents. By the way, it's NOT email. It's done thru this site...

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/contact/chl.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A comment and two questions:
- I started my application last week and in my receipt email they had an email link to return documents to, or I could do it on the site

- after fingerprint the tech said that I still needed to send in a copy of their form (the one that I brought to the appointment). I don't see that on the DPS checklist?

- need to send in my CHL-100 and DD-214. Do I send those as one combined PDF document or does their system play better with multiple documents?
Their system can handle multiple files. If you have it as a single file, I would think that would work, too. Can't comment about the fingerprint form, but if you have it, why not send it? Send everything, and let them sort it out.

Re: New online CHL application & procedures

Well, I would suggest you scan them in monochrome, and at reduced resolution. So the file sizes are minimized. No guaranties, but it might help.

Payments are only valid for one year. Sorry, start over. However, if you're referring to a paper application "packet", it can all be done online now.

Tall Man wrote:Charles- Perhaps you can help with an interesting situation I have with my online application. Everything has been completed and I am ready to mail everything in. However, the Online Application Checklist says that I need to submit a CHL-6 Form along with 2 passport photos. I printed off the form and it specifically states that this is only for applicants that do not have a TX drivers license. I have had a TX drivers license since 1977 and am not sure if I should just note that on the application and send it in (w/o the CHL-6) or if there will be a problem with TX DPS if I do not send in specifically what is mentioned on the check list. Sorry for the long question but everyone I have talked to says they have never heard of this happening before.

Thanks........Tall Man
They haven't updated the software yet. The photos are not needed provided you have a Texas DL.

Re: New online CHL application & procedures

There is only one shooting test. Except for instructors, who get to take the test twice (once semi-auto and once revolver) and must pass at 90% instead of 70%. Yes, the same test as always.

Re: New online CHL application & procedures

"Evidence of handgun proficiency" is the shooting test. (Not required on the third renewal, as you've noted.)
