Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?

Glockster wrote:Where would this fall into it - Town Green Park is a township owned park located in The Woodlands, and the sign prohibits "Weapons/Guns" within the park. I'm assuming that this isn't a violation of 30.06/30.07 as they don't have either of those signs or the language. And I'm assuming that they cannot by law simply ban weapons without the usual language that allows licensed carry? And if so, what is the best way to deal with this?
That sign has no effect on a licensed carrier.

I was surprised to find a 30.06 sign just outside the door but then realized that the concert was being held in the council chambers. I took a picture of the sign and plan to write to the city manager about its presence for a non-city meeting event. Before I do, I want to confirm my understanding that it is the event (meeting) that is prohibited for CC and not the room in which the meeting could be held.

The sign is on a plastic "bread board" type of arrangement that appears like it would be easy to fold and store. I'm hoping that its presence this evening was just an oversight. There are more concerts by this same group in this same room in 2016. I'm hoping that I don't have to make trips back to the car for those.
Did you take pictures. I ask this because I see gun shows still exhibiting 30.06 signs on county owned property. The people who sponsored the concert might have displayed the sign, and like at the gun shows it is a recurring event.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?

Just repeal 46.03 and 46.035 and list courtrooms and court offices if posted 30.06.

Not valid. Doesn't even come close to trying to be a 30.06. I would personally carry right past it. And since it says concealed firearms are prohibited I might even OPEN CARRY!! :biggrinjester:
When I retired I left Houston after 20 years and moved back to South Texas. To give you an idea how small the town is that I live in, the post office just looks like a regular house. It doesn't even have a sign that says Post Office on it. Mayberry is much bigger.

Both city limit signs are on the same post.
You make it sound like all the businesses are outside of the city limits.

RedRaiderCHL wrote:well since i got my Chl i have been noticing incorrect 51% signs more so than 30.06 ones because i work in the beer industry. Ive noticed that in lubbock the Buffalo Wild Wings on 19th street has a 51% sign that is on the door inside the building going into the bar which is completely inconspicuously placed as well as the fact that it shouldn't be up. i talked to a low level manager and he told me they are 64% food sales in the whole establishment (including the bar), and since BWWs bar section is not a separate establishment from the restaurant side it shouldn't be up. Even if the 51% rule did apply to the whole establishment the sign should be on the front entrance everyone uses to enter the building.

Im guessing it was there from the previous establishment and nobody took it down or that someone slapped it up on that door to discourage legal carrying.

Ive also noticed that at Cujos Sports bar in lubbock off 4th and Frankford their 51% sign is like 10 or 11 feet off the ground in the entry way and it should be moved down. Frankly im 6'5'' and i barely noticed it. if i wasn't looking for it i wouldn't have.

i feel bar owners should be more aware of things like this.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?

Unicyclist, signs 1, 2, 3. And 4
Sign 1 and 2 are valid 30.06.
Sign 3 is the obsolete 30.06 sign, so carry away.
Signs 4, I would carry anyway but you may take a ride. The law states "a sign in both English and Spanish," nothing about signs, 1 in English and 1in Spanish.

They are classing it as a court building. I would like to see the law changed to Court Rooms and Offices if properly posted. Take building out of the equation.

this is what the law does say, it doesn't seem to me to mean the entire building but has been interpreted to mean that by county/city/state people

PC §46.03. PLACES WEAPONS PROHIBITED. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly possesses or goes with a firearm, illegal knife, club, or prohibited weapon listed in Section 46.05(a):

(3) on the premises of any government court or offices utilized by the court, unless pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the court;

to me this means that you cannot go into court rooms, the clerks office or any other offices used by the court
The definition of premises is the building, such as premises of a school.
