Re: NM: Prop gun in Alec Baldwin movie kills one injures one

I'll quote CNN, so the libs can't claim I'm biased.

'Rust' armorer 'mishandled' guns on previous film with Nicolas Cage, crew members say
Stu Brumbaugh, the key grip on "The Old Way," told CNN that Gutierrez handled guns on the set of that project in a reckless manner and that he urged the film's assistant director to fire her.

"There's a universal way to handle weapons on set and immediately red flags went up when I worked with Hannah," Brumbaugh said. "This is why I asked for her dismissal."

"This is why people get injured because of rookie mistakes," he said.

<snip>

A source who worked on "The Old Way" and requested their name not be included for fear of professional reprisal told CNN they also had concerns about Gutierrez's work on the project.

"She walked out onto the set with live rounds with no announcement whatsoever to the cast and crew by her," the source said. "She never announced to anyone that she was walking on the set carrying firearms loaded with blanks with her."

"She didn't carry the firearms safely. She had pistols tucked under her armpits and was carrying rifles in each hand that were ready to be used in the scene," this individual added. "Firearms were aimed at people. She turned around and the pistols that were tucked under her armpits were pointing back at people."

Exactly!!!
I heard a very good explanation of this today.... I'm sure I'll butcher it here...
Was from a guy that worked on movie sets for a number of years.

Depending on the technology (film or digital cameras), the DP (director of photog) and the film director are usually in the proximity of somewhere behind the camera. With digital, maybe they're close by looking at a monitor. With film, they may be directly behind, checking lighting, etc, making sure the scene goes as planned and the images captured meet their vision. How do you know to yell "retake!" unless you've seen it from the angle the camera is shooting. So, in a case where an actor is asked to fire a weapon towards the camera for whatever effect the director desires, it's completely plausible that the DP is lined up closely with the camera and the Director essentially in the Umpire (think baseball) position directly behind. With lighting in the face of the actor, he may have been shooting into the darkness as far as he could see.

Until more is known, I'm not inclined to pile on Baldwin. As much as I despise his politics and his hot head, elitist personality. Whoever is responsible for the gun being loaded with a real bullet is responsible for this homicide.

Would I check every round every time if I was an actor? Probably? Did John Wick?

Re: NM: Prop gun in Alec Baldwin movie kills one injures one

Information is still sketchy, but, this makes it sound like it was a real live round that got fired from what should have been a prop gun.

An eyewitness on set tells this column that the bullet went straight through the body of DP Halyna Hutchins and into the clavicle of the film’s director Joel Souza.

Very quickly the set was locked down. Ambulance and helicopters arrived. Hutchins and Souza were sent straight to the hospital. Hutchins died en route in a helicopter.

On the ground, Baldwin was in shock but composed. He kept asking why he was handed a “hot gun.” Our eyewitness said Baldwin kept saying “In all my years, I’ve never been handed a hot gun.”

“A hot gun” means a gun with real ammunition.
