Re: Who likes nice shiny BRAND NEW looking brass?

Wowza.

My wife HATES the sound of my vibrtory tumbler. Does this tumbler make much noise?

Also, what's the practical capacity of such a setup, in terms of .223 cases?

Re: Curious about reloading

I, like many, are interested in starting this. Have great location to set it up and so on. My questions are- 1. What is a ball park figure that I would be looking at spending to be able to reload .40 and 5.56? 2. Is reloading 7.62x39 BRASS cased ammo possiable? If so, worth it? I hope I didn't hija...

Re: Powder suggestions

For .223 plinking loads, I've found that Vihtavuori N135 is a great powder, and I get *very* good accuracy and consistency with it. In my rifle using 55gr FMJ-BT bullets, the sweet spot seems to be 24.7 grains. My test batch gave me a 5-round 7/16" group at 50m: http://john-boy.net/images/55grf...

Re: Mosin Nagant... school me, please

Range report: Fired our two newly acquired Mosin-Nagants at the range today, about 30 rounds each. My 12year old grand-son was able to handle the recoil just fine. They both shot extremely high at 100 yards. To get on the paper we had to aim at the target below. The guy next to us had a Nagant he h...

Re: My new hunting rifle!

If you like Varget (I do) try also Alliant Reloder-15....see which one is more consistent in your rifle then stick with it. I settled on RE-15....but each rifle is different. I'll have to check, but if I recall correctly, Reloader 15 is mentioned as one of the powders for the .308 in the Lee manual...

Re: XD 5.25 9mm ok for nightstand?

74 is absolutely right. If it fits her hand, she likes it, hits what she shoots at it is good for her. Striker fire handguns are, in my oppinion, the very best platform for new shooters. XDs are my choice in brand only because they were out before the M & the standard XD grip fits my hand. Good...

Re: .380 Range Loads

I've gotten good results using Bullseye, shooting through my LCP. I used: Berry's 100 grain RN Federal #100 SPP 2.3 grains Bullseye OAL 0.980" I found both 2.3 and 2.5 grains gave me impressively accurate results, so I settled on 2.3 as my standard plinking load to conserve powder. This is a fa...

Re: Carry at the Moody Theater in Austin,TX

NcongruNt, thanks for the info. I'll slip a little .380 or .357 in my pocket when I go tonight. .357? Little!? http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_764939_-1_757768_757767_757751_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y" onclick="window.open(this.href);ret...

Re: Carry at the Moody Theater in Austin,TX

Not a sign in the place that I could find, 30.06 or 51% - and I went in and out twice. There *are* purse-searchers at the gate, but no checks aside from purses/bags ( for cameras, they said ). We had floor tickets, so I pocket-carried only (it gets crowded down there), but if you've got seats you s...

Re: Carry at the Moody Theater in Austin,TX

Yeah, I'm going to Wilco with my wife tonight as well. I couldn't find anything online, but it's a new venue. I guess we'll see tonight, eh? Wife and I will be see Joe Bonamassa on 12/2. It would be greatly appricated if you can post what you find out. Not a sign in the place that I could find, 30....

Re: What's the Origin of Your User Name?

Lived for many years in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Austin, although I no longer do... hp = Hyde Park; c = Campus (old, inside joke amongst my friends); atx = Austin, Texas. You're in good company. I lived in a few different locations in Hyde Park in my younger days. Welcome to the forum. ;-) (ye...

Re: Mosin Nagant

I had an SKS and still have a bunch of Mosins. You can usually find the round receivers for about $90. A 440 round tin of ammo is $85-95. Slip on recoil pad is a good investment. The carbines are a lot of fun too. They usually run about $200 for an M44. Are the M44s that expensive now? yeesh. I pai...

Re: A Cautionary Tale about brass sorting

Anyone use one of these brass sorters? Does it work? More importantly does the add on .380 separator work? http://www.midwayusa.com/Find?userSearchQuery=Brass+sorter+" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Interesting, though that's a good $60 of add-on equipment. I've not had tha...

Re: Curious about reloading

I'm new to reloading, but my initial experiences concur with what has been posted already. IMHO, reloading 115-grain 9mm FMJ really isn't worth the effort as you're going to pay about 12 cents per round vs the 18-22 cents you're paying to buy new factory loads. Translates to saving about $3-$4 per ...
