I suppose I could always shave off the lug to solve that problem.
They make FSBs without the lug.

I'd personally go with the 20", but it's really up to you.

That bayonet lug on the "dissipator" looks awful silly with no room to hang anything on it, though.

Re: Pictures of your "Black Guns"

FINALLY! After waiting for what seems like forever, my Spike's Tactical ST-15 Mid-Length Carbine finally showed up yesterday. For the time being, the only planned mods are a free-float handguard and a Magpul MOE grip. The only problem is that it'll be likely 2 weeks before I can get away to shoot i...

Re: PSA LOWERS ON SALE FOR $49.95!!

I got notification that mine shipped about 7 hours ago. Ordered midday 09/01. I expect it will arrive at my FFL within a couple of days. Tracking number said it was sent USPS Priority Mail. I also keep a copy of my FFL's paperwork and e-mailed that to them the following morning once I figured out ex...

Re: What Press for a beginner?

Spoken like somebody who is really out of touch with the beginning reloader's challenges. FWIW, my first press was a Lee Loadmaster, so it can be done. Regarding your "Ease of Caliber change", personally I think it is easier to change calibers on a progressive. I swap the old turret out and the new...

Re: PSA LOWERS ON SALE FOR $49.95!!

7 dollars shipping. Add the FFL fee and you're getting pretty close to the price of a stripped lower at a gun show. Don't forget the 11% Federal Excise tax! I think after shipping, taxes, and transfer (the FFL I use does transfers for $10), they'll end up being $72.50/ea for me. Still a great deal....

I use Bullseye paired with a Berry's 100gr plated bullet for my range loads. Really great stuff.

Re: Varmints! Waking up the neighbors...

Aguila also makes the Super Colibri, which is about like a CB cap, but in a .22LR form factor. They shoot pointy little 20grainers somewhere between 450 and 600fps (depending on your barrel). I know folks who use them on squirrels quite successfully. Out of a rifle barrel, they're really quiet.

Re: AR-15 handguard question

I put a free-float handguard from Rock River Arms on my AR when I built it. That particular model only comes in Mid and Rifle Length, but if you're going with a low-profile gas block it should work like you're looking to do. It gives you a nice quad rail while still having a good area for a handhold...

Re: Pictures of your Reloading Set-up

I just spent a day and a half cleaning, reorganizing and revamping my reloading room. I made a 90 degree panorama from the doorway, so figured I would post an update: http://john-boy.net/images/reloadingroom-scaled750.png I'll have shelving wrapping around to the left wall sometime next week. I woul...

Re: AR-15 recommendations

Don't get a direct impingment AR15 - the new gas piston models are so much better. LWRC is the best among the bunch. What makes the piston guns so much better in your opinion? You do realize that you asked this question in response to a post that's 3 1/2 years old, right? It has been almost 2 years...

Re: Tumbling brass?

Depends on the caliber. Around 400 .223 will run in my tumbler, but it will hold 2-3 times that in .380 or 9mm. The instructions say it will do 650 ".38 cal cases". I'm assuming by that they mean .38spl.

How much I actually do depends on how much I bring back from the range.

Google CLEMTEX
Yeah, Grainger carries both corn cob and walnut media. That's my plan once my current stock runs out.
