Liability Insurance for Instructors

Is it typical that CHL instructors carry liability or malpractice insurance to cover them against people taking them to court for responsibility for one of their past students using their gun in a injury or killing situation?

Is it really necessary?

Is this permissible in a classroom setting?

If I teach a chl class or an NRA class, let's say in a hotel conference room (and I have the hotel's permission, or any other suitable classroom) can I unconceal my handgun (unloaded) and use it for demonstration purposes during the class? In other words does your concealed handgun have to stay conc...

Re: 411.171 question

I thought that also, initially, and it may be true. For example, what is actually being taught by the DPS in instructor classes? etc tex They do not teach you to interpret the law, they teach you the intent of the statute as they see it. That is the piece that must be determined, what was the 'inte...

Re: 411.171 question

I thought that also, initially, and it may be true. I work in the aviation industry as an instructor pilot and air traffic control instructor and my job requires me to be an expert on several parts of Federal Aviation Regulations. Having been involved in many cases where legal action was taken conce...

411.171 question

Reference the definition of concealed handgun in paragraph (3)... First let's look at what it DOESN'T say... ...means a handgun, the presense of which is not discernible... Now, what it actually says... ...means a handgun, the presense of which is not OPENLY discernible... Why the adverb 'openly'. W...

Re: what is the point of this.....

The sign says 'Unliscenced Posession." Since there's no such thing as a liscence requirement to posess a firearm in the Stata of Texas, this sign is nonsense! My CHL is 'Liscenced Concealed Carry." The only thing I have for possessing the firearm is my receipt from where I purchased it. :banghead: ...

what is the point of this.....

You see these signs everywhere...usually at corner stores... 'The unlicsenced possession of a firearm on these premises is a felony and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine,,,; Why? Is it to remind us of the obvious? It implies that at other places without a similar sign that the unl...

travel advise needed

I will be traveling from texas eastward thru LA, MS, AL, GA then SC, NC and VA. Then back thru TN, AR and back. I will of course study all of the individual state laws to be very familiar but does anyone have any advise or warnings involving any of those states that jump out and come to mind. I will...

Re: Where can we find chl case law?

The only way to really get to a practical 'bottom' of the subject of the definition of 'conspicuous' as it relates to signage posting is to find previous determinations in prior cases where the 'conspicuous' became a point of argument that had to be resolved. It can be in chl cases (the best to hope...

Where can we find chl case law?

This is to Charles Cotton or anyone who is familiar with the subject. I am not a lawyer but I did work for one of the largest firms in Dallas for a few years back in the seventies and my duties taught me a few things. How can we research specific case law dealing with chl issues? Where can we look u...

Re: Is this sign legally posted?

yes. In all other respects it meets specs. the definition of 'conspicuous' can not be simply that the sign is 'discoverable by deliberate search'. Doesnt it have to be 'obvious' to someone upon entry?

tex and thanks for the welcome

Is this sign legally posted?

Went to the Longview Mall today (Longview, Texas) to see if they really do have a 30.06. Yes they do. Far to the right of the main entrance. http://longviewbluegrass.com/images/longviewmallchl.jpg In fact is it behind a big support pillar. Easily seen if you look 45 degrees to your right and 15 feet...
