Re: TX: League City gun range blamed for bullet holes in new homes

There doesn't appear to be anyone commenting here from the range itself. Or they are reading and their legal advisers recommended against commenting publicly, so they are silent. I rent a garage in the adjacent storage complex (you can see it on the KHOU video), so I'm out there probably an average ...

Re: Alligator defense question

Update on this alligator question. I found an eye witness who explained to me that the monster gator was lurking in the area because (get this) some people north of us are intentionally feeding it. They reportedly trained it to come when they call (and they don't appear to have a hunting permit - th...

Re: One more time (defense against animals)

One of those previous ambiguous threads was likely mine, because I had the same question after a loose pit bull was shot and killed about 200 feet from my back porch earlier this year. By the luck of the draw, the shooter in that case was a LEO who happened to be driving by and saw a screaming woman...

Re: Bear protection?

All bears are not created alike. Black bears can often be discouraged from interaction without resorting to deadly force. Grizzly bears? Do whatever you feel is necessary. A dog might be a mixed blessing. Some bears hate them, so a dog might be a draw. But our dog is utterly terrified of bears (and ...

Re: Alligator defense question

... If there is no discernable boundary between your property and that of USACE fee lands, and you have widow makers or dead timber that you are unsure of who owns what, go to the park office and ask to talk to someone. They are not unreasonable folks. Except I'd have to go to that office on a trip...

Re: Alligator defense question

Thanks for that great info above. I would have thought that TPWD game wardens fulfill the function of enforcement on Rayburn as they do on other Texas waterways... but you know what they say about the word "assume". The area in question where the private property abuts the lake... there are no demar...

Re: Alligator defense question

It may be the law, but it gets a big fat FAIL for common sense and intuitive deduction. The federal government backed off firearm restrictions in National Parks which are arguably more sensitive environments, but left the same provision intact for the surfaces of water bodies? How does that reflect ...

Re: Alligator defense question

..... Lake Sam Rayburn is Army CoE. A firearm in your boat would be a federal crime if I understand the laws correctly. Can anyone expound on this please? The property adjoining the lake is private property. At some point there is an invisible line on the shore where we step onto USACOE property (d...

Alligator defense question

I searched about 5 years' worth of threads and didn't see any focused discussion on gator defense strategy. I saw stories about a Grandma who got a permit and shot a gator that had eaten her mini-horse, a gator that treed a teenager and had to be shot by a LEO, an 800-lb gator found in Sugarland, st...

A post-script to this thread: Pic of a professional knife-throwing range in Toronto. If such a thing existed in the greater Houston area, I would certainly patronize it. I'd pay for proper instruction.

Re: This is happening on our College Campuses! Please vote!

Maybe it is time for conservatives to fight back. Someone should have simply knocked her out. No. That confrontation was executed in an ideal manner. Those exercising their 1A rights did not escalate the violence instigated by others - they turned the other cheek. They may have had their materials ...

Re: 16 year old daughter pocket knife/ pepper spray

.............. And you are right - putting anything around one's neck that can be used to choke or strangle or restrain themselves, especially 550 paracord attached to a kydex holster holding a karambit they don't know how to use aids the enemy. The better neck knife producers realize this risk. Mi...

Re: 16 year old daughter pocket knife/ pepper spray

Odd to see this kind of debate on a self-defense forum because this next part should go without saying, in the style of "been there, talked about that already". The argument that a knife won't help... it overlooks the psychological factors that characterize the act of predation. Last month, I gifted...

Re: Throwing knives / Spikes

.... ... You aren't going to kill a bear, wolf, coyote, or any other dangerous predator with a throwing knife. If you leave whatever it is that they came after they aren't going to pursue you. Attacking a bear with a knife is just going to get you killed. Doing nothing at all in those scenarios wil...
