Ed's Red Experiment - Long

Let me see, how can I make this remotely CHL-related? Oh yeah, this board is about carrying a gun. If you carry a gun you need to practice. If you practice, the gun’s going to get dirty and a dirty gun needs to be cleaned. There you go; now it’s “on topic. Like many of you, I love to shoot ...

I carry 1911's, either my Thunder Ranch Special, or a SS Colt Commander. I use a Sparks NP-1 holster during the week when I'm in a suit and either a Sparks VM-II or Sparks #1 Heritage (both IWB's) when not in a suit or wearing a jacket. Usually one extra mag in a Galco QMC (clip-on) when in a suit; ...

You are correct, you can have a loaded long gun in your car. Beware, there will be a bill filed in the 2005 session that would make carrying a long gun in your car illegal, without a CHL. I'll post a notice in the 2005 Texas Legislative Session when it's filed.

the unilateral agreement is no bad thing. Several states recognize texas and other state licenses although texas is not reciprocal with them. I agree! We had too many years with little or no action. In fact, Texas' delay in negotiating an agreement with Oklahoma prompted that State to change its CH...

DPS WEBSITE UPDATED RE: NEW MEXICO

The DPS website has been updated regarding the status of New Mexico. As noted in the quote below, Gov. Perry's proclamation was a unilateral recognition of New Mexico CHL's, not a reciprocal agreement. Hopefully, this will prompt the New Mexico Legislature to enact the amendments that will provide f...

In the past I've considered offering the CHL as form of ID for financial transaction, but only as a passing thought. This reminds me of a rather funny story. A few years ago, before 9/11, I was flying back to Houston after a deposition in Chicago. While checking in at O'Hare, the lady looked at my ...

I don't have specific knowledge, but I suspect one of two likely scenarios. First, Texas requires another State's CHL statute to require a background check sufficient to prove the applicant is not prohibited from owning firearms, pursuant to federal law, before a license is issued. I don't know if M...

Suggestion for carrying in other states

CHL'ers: Based upon a few horror stories I've read on other forums, I would suggest that anyone planning to carry on a Texas CHL in a reciprocal state go to the DPS website and print a copy of the Reciprocal Agreement with that state. DPS has recently posted a PDF copy of the signed agreement. Most ...

Pending Reciprocity Agreements Posted on DPS Website

The DPS has posted a notice that reciprocity agreements are forthcoming with Colorado and New Mexico. Based upon the wording, it appears the agreements have been reached and that only the posting on DPS' website has yet to be done. Caveat: See the next paragraph. A pending agreement with New Mexico ...
