Re: Off The Beaten Path - Langtry, TX

I have visited here since it's just a short jog off US 90. If you leave the Roy Bean visitor center, it's only a few blocks down to the Rio Grande, past tumbledown abandoned houses, and some where people live, but that also don't look too good. Here's something I've always wondered about. In the mov...

Excaliber:

Thank you for sorting this out. I will not be there on 7/27, since I have a prior commitment.

No star in upper right corner of your DL? Problems after 10/1/2020.

<The link I initially provided does not work, so I removed it and altered the text below> An article from the Dallas Morning News' "Watchdog" reporter Dave Lieber, dated 7/21/19, details Texas drivers license data. The article appears to reside behind a pay wall, and I could not find an alternative...

Re: DFW Way Out West Breakfast

This thread did not have a comment from June 23. I totally missed this one, and went went with the original "Fort Worth side of town" thread. When no one posted on the other one, I stated on 7/19/19 that we should meet at Manny's on 7/20/19, which did happen. We had 3 in attendance: hackjob, diesel4...

Re: Off The Beaten Path - Round Rock, TX

Pflugerville is more or less between Round Rock and Austin, so its unofficial slogan is "Pfluergerville - Between a rock and a weird place."

"Pfluger" is German for "plowman", or farmer, as the initial German settlers were.

Speaking of dentists and thread drift (I'm guilty as charged). Have some humor from "The Little Shop of Horrors". There's even a .38 snubbie in the clip.

Bill Murray may just out macho you all. :-)

Re: DFW West/Southwest Quadrant Breakfast

Here's a copy of the venue change reminder I posted on Thursday: Manny's Cafe 4019 Fort Worth Hwy Hudson Oaks, TX 76087 It's a small cafe located in the David's Stove Shop building on the north side of westbound I20 at Mikus Road. There is minimal signage for the cafe, so look for David's Stove Sho...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclone-class_patrol_ship The US Navy vessels detailed above are only 331 tons, and are being used in the area of operations at the Straits of Hormuz. Their draft is shallow enough that they can patrol in waters where large US Navy vessels can't go. The US Coast Guard i...

Re: Short trip ideas

http://www.luckenbachtexas.com/home.htm Another site you might like would Luckenbach, Texas, site of the famous song. It is close to Fredericksburg also. You take US 290 to FM 1376. I believe there's a Shell gas station/c-store on the corner of 290/1376, and then it's only a few miles to the venue....

Re: Off The Beaten Path - Falfurrias, TX

If you drive northbound on US 281, it is 75 miles from McAllen to Falfurias. What you will have to stop for is one of those large federal facilities run by Border Patrol, ICE, or some such, in Falfurrias. All traffic must pull over in what essentially is a giant carport, since it has to be high enou...

MediocreMexican: Welcome to the board. Choosing your firearms is usually the easy part. You have 2 good ones. Choosing holsters is more vexing. Whatever you carry, it starts out heavy, but the gun get lighter all the time as you carry on a regular basis. As an active member of the Dallas area forum ...

Greece is ridiculous for a gentleman who wants to go no further than 350 miles from Houston.

Re: PA: No place but Philly

Some years ago, sociologists examined multiple large American cities, aiming to rank them for politeness vs. rudeness. Who knows if their methodology was any good, but their stats ranked Philly as the rudest city in America. YMMV, but remember, Philly is where Santa Claus was harassed by a stadium f...
