Re: Three professors sue UT to keep guns out of their classrooms

I'm a bit befuddled as to why the UT lawyer was a bit befuddled by the question of disciplinary process. The lawyer representing UT actually works for the AG's office. In any case, she should have been prepared to answer questions about the disciplinary process. It's a central part of the case beca...

Re: Three professors sue UT to keep guns out of their classrooms

I did see one news article this evening saying that the vagueness claim was aimed at state law (presumably the phrase "may not establish provisions that generally prohibit or have the effect of generally prohibiting"), but that was not the impression I got during the hearing. The vagueness...

Re: Three professors sue UT to keep guns out of their classrooms

Some notes from the court hearing: 1. 1st Amendment individual right to academic freedom: not clear which way the judge was leaning. The case law on this is plainly against the plaintiffs. There is no Supreme Court case saying there is such a right and there are decisions from 4-5 other Circuits tha...

Re: TRUMP

It seems like and ambush to me. It's apparent they wanted a Trump vs Hillary race. An ambush that many people could see coming. People who opposed Trump in the primary repeatedly warned that the media was deliberately treating Trump with kid gloves and that this would change after the nomination. I...

Re: TRUMP

See that 12%? Looks an awful lot like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_1992 Perot siphoned votes nearly equally among Bush and Clinton I believe a recent poll shows the same thing regarding Johnson, although I don't have a link handy. If Hillary wins, it's unlikely...

Re: TRUMP

I do not believe any of the polls. Neither did Mitt Romney. He was convinced even on election night that he was going to win despite polls showing him losing. I have read several places where the polls are scewed by the polling centers, the DNC and the media, to make Hitlery ahead. You know that th...

Re: Three professors sue UT to keep guns out of their classrooms

Hope the case does not go to trial. Would love to see it dismissed on summary judgment. No doubt the AG will push for summary judgement. There is no need for a trial in this case, but I'm not familiar with the judge handling the case so not going to make any predictions of likelihood of case being ...

Re: Three professors sue UT to keep guns out of their classrooms

Is anyone familiar with the attorneys representing the plaintiffs? It's three different attorneys from three different Austin law firms.

Given how shoddily written their complaint was, I suspect that they are true believers (gun control zealots) who are handling this case pro-bono.

Re: Three professors sue UT to keep guns out of their classrooms

I wonder how long it will take for the Judge(s) to decide? The PI (preliminary injunction) will most likely be decided (granted or denied) before August 24. The court hearing on the PI is this Thursday and I wouldn't be surprised to see the decision as early as next week (so that the losing party w...

Re: Three professors sue UT to keep guns out of their classrooms

Given that most leftist academics are still in denial about 2A being an individual right, I think this was my favorite bit in the AG's brief: The claim that Plaintiffs’ right to academic freedom has been violated suffers from a threshold problem: Plaintiffs have no individual right to academic freed...

Re: Three professors sue UT to keep guns out of their classrooms

UT has filed their own reply brief : Plaintiffs characterize Heller and McDonald as establishing a ceiling on the Second Amendment, asserting that these cases go “no further than recognition of the right to possession of handguns in the home.” Id. (citing Heller, 554 U.S. 570; McDonald, 561 U.S. 742...

Re: Texas AG dues Austin over sign

It's not just a sign. Austin City Hall has a security guard at the entrance that denies CHL holders entry.
