Re: DPS Update for Instructors

I'd assumed the instructor renewal class would be at the DPS range in Florence. They have a large class room there. Not sure of the capacity but I think it is 100+. However, they may hold classes in Georgetown. They have used one of the motels right off i35 and have used a large meeting room in Pflu...

Re: DPS Update for Instructors

Yes, you need to send in a CHL8. Personally, I think you could put both your names on one CHL8, both sign it and both instructor license numbers.

Re: Year End Instructor Recertification?

I just learned that DPS plans on having 16 renewal sessions, 8 in Aug and 8 in Sep. They have cut the renewal for instructors to 4 hours and will have morning and afternoon sessions, 2 per day, Mon - Thursday, 8/14-17 and 9/11-14.

Re: Year End Instructor Recertification?

The email posted was 'direct from DPS. course, we are only talking about waiting a couple of weeks. :) I sent in my renewal. The CHL-90 form did NOT mention needing copies of my NRA cert. But, I got a follow up email asking for proof of my NRA certifications AND a copy of my initial certificate (lik...

Volunteer EMS w/LTC can carry in hospitals???

Reading HP 435 it appears that volunteers EMS, (while on duty) can carry in hospitals???
Actually, the law does not repeal 46.035 (b) (4), but it says that it's a defense against prosecution. That's good enough for me. :)

Re: Year End Instructor Recertification?

Houston to Florence, DFW to Florence are not a big deal - day trip. I pity the guys driving from Amarillo or El Paso. :( They will need 2 nights in a motel. I don't know how big that class room is, I'd estimate 150? That means they will have to have 20+ classes. Course, moving around that state will...

I haven't had a problem with 2 or 7.

I don't like 3. A lot of students miss 24. :(

Re: 18 year old driving with handgun in vehicle?

You are confusing federal and state laws. Fed says if they are under 18, the have to have written permission from a parent. (they do NOT enforce the federal law.) Two state laws: One says you cannot transfer a gun to a child under 18 w/o parents permission. They other says 17. :) If you allow someon...

Re: Timeline for Instructor Processing

I was in the Labor day class in Pflugerville - w/about 320 other instructors. :) We had to split up in 2 relays to shoot at the range.
