Re: Suburban driveway carjacking (Humble area)
I have noticed criminals have adapted to LTC. More and more often they are in groups. Whether it be individuals or businesses. This is a very good point, and it is something I've thought about at length within the context of my camper van. Recent owner experience (not mine - others) has shown us th...

Suburban driveway carjacking (Humble area)
This security video is just now making the rounds on social media - not sure why, given that it happened a few months ago. It certainly argues in favor of keeping cars inside garages.

Re: Self defense fixed blade
Points awarded for pics that specifically show what this OP asked for - a horizontal mount. A knife and one or more sheaths nesting on a tarp with other unrelated equipment or in a photogenic bed of woodland twigs and leaves does not give a good feel for how it is actually worn and accessed. I find ...

Re: TX: Large Mixed Breed family dog fatally kills 4 year old
These kinds of issues degenerate quickly when subjected to oversimplification. Yes, it is the parents' responsibility to keep control of their child. In the first realm, that task is 100% on them. But we don't live in a perfect world. Anyone with a disordered child knows that some of them can become...

Re: Beyond the One Percent: How do we get more people to attend training beyond the state minimum?
Could you please expound on what you mean by a 'closed institution'? If it's something like PoliceOne.com, where some content is public and some requires vetting for access, I can understand why some of it is kept close hold (specific LEO protocols for responding to XYZ incidents). However, I'd thi...

Quote from that coverage: "Even if the dog doesn't show any outward signs of aggression, sometimes they can be unpredictable. So, it's best to always be vigilant when you're dealing with a small child and a dog like that." They'd be doing the public a favor if they offered the following PS...

Re: Beyond the One Percent: How do we get more people to attend training beyond the state minimum?
I'm continuing to research this issue a little bit at a time, typically in the time allotted to my morning tea. One of the phenomena I am encountering is closed institutions. In other words, even if the 99% of untrained newbies wanted to get into certain places and increase their training, they cann...

I don't "prefer" them but I own two and carry one, because at this stage in my development, I simply have more confidence with it. It may not be the choice of the highly-skilled, but I don't pretend to be highly skilled.

Re: Beyond the One Percent: How do we get more people to attend training beyond the state minimum?
Thanks for the replies to this thread - this is great information that I intend to put to use. Since my LTC was re-issued a few weeks back (I'd let it lapse years ago), I've carried on two occasions, both times taking what I call my "idiot gun" with me - a S&W titanium 38 revolver (I c...

.... 3. Only a fraction of LTC students will take even intermediate classes, much less advanced classes; a. Most think additional training isn't necessary (See No. 7 below); b. Many are turned off by high pressure sales pitches during LTC classes; c. Many simply don't have the money for additional ...

Re: Beyond the One Percent: How do we get more people to attend training beyond the state minimum?
We live in an information-overload society. In order to get more people to shoot, something has to make information about good classes rise to the top of peoples' awareness piles. That doesn't seem to be stressed in the referenced author's slide show, but as someone for whom shooting is not the prim...

We full time rv. We have an address at Escapees in Livingston. Our mail goes ther and we call when we want it. They have been to court and it is a valid address for voting, registration, banking etc. +1. This is a popular option with many people who travel and also work, in part because Texas has n...

Re: Conceal methods for women
A little bit sideways on the thread topic, but after multiple vicious dog attacks in my neighborhood, I discovered the delight of having a shark knife (made for SCUBA divers) strapped to my leg. It's inexpensive, the straps are rubber so they don't slip and slide, and it doesn't weigh much, so I bar...

Re: Nervous about my proficiency test next week
I suggest that you go to the range and practice a couple of times before the test, if there is time for you to do so. That will help you relax. MANY people are nervous during that test. It was sobering for me to hear all of the off-cue shots being fired during my class's test in January of this year...
