Re: Book Review: The Concealed Handgun Manual
You can find this book, most likely in an earlier edition but information is good just the same, at the Harris County Public Library for those folks around Houston. I'm guessing the book is in many libraries. You can also find quite a few other books and videos to check out for free.

Re: Citizens Police Academy - Grand Prairie
Earlier this year I completed the Citizen's Police Academy for Harris County Constable's Precinct 4. I'm glad I did it, made good contacts and look forward to future opportunities. The classes might be less interesting than the opportunities later such as helping with airborn law enforcement, search...

Re: Stay alert...potential situation last night
I fully agree that only you can make that assessment. Better to be thought of as a jerk than a victim at times when things don't seem right. You mentioned only one BG but in that situation be sure to quickly check the shadows for BG backup.

Re: Dog shot in city park
My two cents: I had a moment when a dog came from a front yard at my son, a baby in a stroller, and me with high intensity barking and charging behavior. It was a beagle-sized and type of dog. I stepped between the dog and my son and the dog moved into the street around me, toward the stroller. I kn...

Re: Interresting twist ...
I considered, thought and read before taking the CHL class. I was glad I did because the instructor didn't give any further references for people to learn more. To his credit, he allowed me a bit of class time to discuss what I'd read through many magazines and quite a few books. I certainly look at...

Excellent food for thought. Great beginnings for ensuring you have a plan of action for the what ifs of the home environment.

Re: At what age did you become a CHL holder ?
About age 40 when having young children brought more responsibility, a decreased awareness and ability to evade - not going to leave 'em temporarily or permanently with anything and everything I can do about it.

This sounds like my 1994 decision never to buy a Ruger. Ruger was discriminating against employees who rode motorcycles, saying employees had to wear helmets or would get no insurance benefits in spite of state laws that did not require helmets. Quite positively, employees along with the American Mo...

Please sign me up too. I am in Ohio every July and have been looking for this opportunity. I'll be there again this July and hope to have the Utah permit to cover the visit.

Re: How young is too young?
I've taken my kids shooting at the in-laws "back 40" with a .22 rifle or at home in town, with airsoft / BB guns. They started at age 4-5 give or take. We have a small back yard so I made a backstop of a wooden frame and stapled a t-shirt or two to the back of it. They draw their own targe...

Re: Need Self Defense Ideas for 20 yr. old Female
I second that mind-set is the first step - awareness, reality and decision making. One of the books I recommend is The Gift Of Fear and Other Survival Signals That Protect Us From Violence by Gavin de Becker. de Becker is an anit-gun guy but very good with all other things that describe responsibili...

I've had my wife read a variety of magazine articles and parts of books. One book I recommend and written by a woman who was anitgun until being mugged then turned wise: Not an Easy Target: Paxton Quigley’s Self-Protection for Women by Paxton Quigley

Re: Tuckable Holsters
I have had a High Noon Holsters "Closing Argument" in horsehide and like it. It's quite tuckable, comfortable, stable while walking or running (short distances) and can shift enough while sitting to be comfortable too. I've not tried other composites but the draw from mine is nice and smoo...
