Re: BEWARE buying ammo etc. from Cabella's
If you paid by credit card, you may be able to take it up with them too. They swing a much bigger bat, and can at least get your money back. I've done this on rare occasions when a store wouldn't make something right. Bottom line is they promised you a certain product, you paid for that product, and...

Re: Almost had to draw and shoot some fool tonight--kinda long
...under the castle doctrine you have every right to shoot and kill, if he is trying to get into your space (your vehicle) or get you out... Scott, although the castle doctrine didn't enter my mind during the incident, that is a very good point. I did feel that getting out of my car might have been...

Re: Front jeans pocket for carry?
I plan on pocket carrying a Ruger LCP, and I figure that it will have to come out of the pocket when I sit down in the car. In fact, I had a situation just this week that convinced me that the gun has to be more accessible than buried in a pocket while sitting. I almost needed mine, and there would ...

Re: Taurus 85 Ultralite 38 Special (with special problems)
I've owned and shot a Taurus 85 in stainless for the last 8+ years. It has been 100% reliable, just to add to what others have already stated. It sounds like you may have just gotten one that made it through QC too quickly.

Re: Almost had to draw and shoot some fool tonight--kinda long
Although I've never had the chance to practice drawing and firing while seated in a car, I felt like I was in a pretty good position. Leaning forward towards the side-view mirror gave me full access to my holstered weapon. My hand was completely around the handle, and I could have easily drawn. Also...

Re: Almost had to draw and shoot some fool tonight--kinda long
Guys, thank you all for your kind words, and insight into this situation. I am so relieved that it didn't come down to shooting the guy. Going over the sequence again, I think the guy was either a huge jerk, or just had a really bad day (that almost got much worse!). He didn't seem high or drunk, so...

Re: What's the proper way to load the +1?
That makes perfect sense. I used to do it that way on my old Taurus model 92 (Beretta-like) and it seemed to work just fine.

Almost had to draw my weapon on some fool tonight-kinda long
My wife and I were getting ready to leave to meet the family for a Christmas Eve service. I commented on how the shirt I was wearing didn't go down as far as my others, and it made me nervous to wear it for fear of accidental flashing. My wife suggested I leave the gun home tonight--after all, we we...

Re: What's the proper way to load the +1?
Sounds like there is a consensus here on the proper way to do it. The reason it's important to me, is that I was looking to pocket carry a 6-rd capacity Ruger LCP. The +1 is HUGE for a gun that small (caliber), with that limited capacity. That's the primary reason I don't like carrying my revolver, ...

How about this: if you ever see a BG holding/robbing me at gunpoint, feel free to shoot him in the back!

Re: What's the proper way to load the +1?
Gotcha... but why would anyone NOT want to load +1? Isn't the idea to have the most rounds your gun can carry ready to go?AEA wrote: ALWAYS strip rounds off the magazine.
If you MUST load the +1, insert Mag and cycle slide to strip one off. Drop Mag and reload one into it.

What's the proper way to load the +1?
Just wondering if there's a correct (safest) way to do this.
Slide lock open, drop a round directly into the chamber, drop the slide and insert the magazine?
Or insert the magazine, rack the slide, remove the magazine, load one more round, and the replace the magazine?
Does it even matter?
