Re: SB 17 about to go to the Senate Floor - Amendments?

Mostly unrelated thought: Would be interesting to have a Special Session devoted just to repealing laws, no new stuff allowed. That would be interesting. I refer to the prescience and common sense of the eminent Professor De La Paz, who once said, "Let the legislators pass laws only with a two...

Re: Karh problems

My EDC gun, if one can count nine days of recent carry as "every day", is a Kahr PM9. I'm not fast. For some reason "fast" and "me" in the same sentence don't play well together. Taking a little time, i can shoot six inch groups at 25 yards, standing/offhand. A friend w...

Re: SB 17 about to go to the Senate Floor - Amendments?

To be absolutely fair, I don't think OC is common enough, despite all the hoopla about it, to have actually established a dataset worthy of telling us whether gun-snatches and/or targeting of open carriers is or will be a problem. Maybe not in Texas, but I think open carry has been legal in Arizona...

Re: The Star Telegram on OCTC - nothing new, really

This fire-in-a-theater jazz is a favorite of the less historically literate among America’s false-compromisers, most of whom know neither that the phrase was a (defective) analogy and not a legal doctrine,
Wasn't if from the use of nitrocellulose in movie film?

Re: The Star Telegram on OCTC - nothing new, really

The terrible thing is I agree with some of what that idiot spews. I believe I have a Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I would consider praying to my Maker that nothing I did would ever approach the social unease this guy causes, but it would be a waste of the Great Architect's ear. Nothin...

Open carry activists not so open about criminal past - http://www.star-telegram.com/opinion/opn-columns-blogs/bud-kennedy/article10243031.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I don't know Bud Kennedy's politics. Kory Watkins has a little more acne on his permanent record th...

Re: C.J. Grisham is factually-challenged

The Open Carry people have had a deep, negative impact on thoughtful citizens. Why, just this morning I saw a youtube video featured in the early news. Harmless, in earlier, more courteous times. Today, not so much. All it took was the hat, and there went my Cheerios, spewed across the breakfast tab...

Re: One song that "speaks" to you

The Mary Ellen Carter by Stan Rogers, a song about a mishandled workboat that went down in a storm, raises the hair on my neck. The real-life Marine Electric sank in a storm off the east coast, and one of the few survivors, chief mate Bob Cusick, said the lyrics of that song gave him the strength to...

Re: Carry 'around the house'?

I haven't open carried at home in a long time. When I first moved to my rural haven the coyotes were so thick I didn't know what they were. It was like crowd noise, instead of individual voices. Once I figured out I wasn't being overrun by zombie hordes, I decided to acclimate myself better to the e...

Re: False Testimony by President of Texas Chapter of Mom’s D

I'm pretty sure one of the "Mom" types (nothing like my Mom, I assure you) said something along the lines of how there were no other states that allowed open carry, and none considering it. Sad.

Re: December 2014

My don't-go-to-jail card got here in today's mail.

I feel like a citizen, in a Heinlein sense. Wonderful.

And it came on Friday the 13th. I'm good. It's just the next number when the 12th was yet another day of waiting. :-)

Re: I'm almost hoping Open Carry fails… here's why

I'd say a lot of the problems will come from Texas having been out of step and repressive. I use the word "repressive" in conversational tones, not Watkins-esque, merely acknowledging Texas has for most of its history denied certain rights accepted in the mainstream of other states. I reme...

Interesting, the lady about to leave Texas because we're gun nuts. I swear she said there weren't any states that allowed open carry, or were considering it.

I must be so uninformed. :headscratch

I confess I thought about getting my gun muffs to protect myself from the strident tone, but I like that quote - "Those who prevent peaceful revolution make violent revolution inevitable," and she's right, it's a JFK quote.

Re: Link to Today's TX Senate Hearing On SB11 and SB 17 (2-1

Three cheers for the president of the Texas Sheriff's Association. I called his office and offered my thanks for clearly communicating what anyone ought to know - a law abiding citizen is not a problem. A law abiding citizen with a gun is not a problem.
