Re: Bought a shotmaker

45 degrees? That's interesting - how long is that plate, Don? Oh heck, the one thing I did not measure, I will this evening when my neighbor gets home...It's at his house at this time. It looked to be 1.5" - 2" long, but I will measure it for you asap. In the last few weeks, I have made 4...

Re: Bought a shotmaker

OK BUDDY....I want to see some pics of your homemade shot..!!! I looked at the lip/ramp under the drippers on the shotmaker I use and it looks to be at about 45 deg's..?? I just eyeballed it with 90 deg small square across the drippers and the bottom of the lip is at about half of that. ( ...

Re: Bought a shotmaker

WoW...That was fast..!!! ;-) The welds look great from the picture. It looks built well as a whole. It also looks like it been bead blasted or chemically treated. It looks like a professional job was done with what I can see. I guess all the work are in the bolts/drippers, but it would have been nic...

Re: Bought a shotmaker

Hey, I used to see that same one advertised in South Africa when I was a kid! I always wondered how that turned out - very cool, thanks for the link Don :) It actually works very good, I keep one ingot worth of melted lead in the pot or however much is needed to keep the lead level about a 1/4"...

Re: Bought a shotmaker

Check this out Andy, this is the one we use to make all our shot. It's kind of slow, but for $25 at a garage sale, it's fast enough for us..!!!! It was made in the mid 60's and is still working. That tells you something about the way stuff use to be built..!! The instructions for our/my little shotm...

Re: Bought a shotmaker

I'm so mad.....!!! :mad5 I can't find my 410 roll crimper, I was going to try to see if it would taper the shell that had been star crimped to fit in pumps and autos better..!!! That sucker is around here somewhere, but where. I don't use it very much so it's deep in a drawer or cabinet somewhere. S...

Re: Bought a shotmaker

Say Andy, was that shot maker pan made for one of the commercial shotmakers?
Or is it a generic one for making your own?

Doesn't mater I'm just curious...

Would you share the web site it's from?
I'd like to check into it, it sounds just what I wanted.

Re: Bought a shotmaker

Badger away Bro.....!!! It's not bugging me when I like the project and want to make one myself... You can be the Guinea pig ;-) If you do not have an electric hot plate or want a new one, I found one I really like at Walmart that has a cast iron top plate that stays hot for a while after ...

Re: Bought a shotmaker

That is EXACTLY what I wanted to get....!!!! I have an idea that I have been pushing around, if you had that shotmaker pan sitting on an electric hot plate letting it warm up, THEN sit your bottom pour furnace over it and fix the valve to stay on, you should be able to get that to work. Thought: You...

Re: MEC 410 shotshell reloader

I've seen folks selling the dripper nozzles on eBay that they make out of bolts; I've been wondering what it would take to make a dripper myself  I'm angry with myself...I have been looking for my 410 roll crimper and can't find it. It's here somewhere nice and safe.... ;-) I wanted to try it...

Re: MEC 410 shotshell reloader

Yes, you are, my friend - much obliged :tiphat: Ya I'm as smart as Google search...!!! You got me inspired to load some 410's, the 410 is hard to get good crimps on sometimes and can be a bugger to reload. I'm looking for my 410 roll crimper now to try the trick on, it's soo small it hides well. ;-...

Re: MEC 410 shotshell reloader

Andy, look at the last few paragraphs at the end of this page, heck just read it all, it's not long. It was the first page I searched for... :clapping: http://www.shotgunsportsmagazine.com/archive/mar14/story0314.html Talks about using a roll crimp die as the last stage to remove bulge and tighten u...

Re: MEC 410 shotshell reloader

Andy, go to this page and look at #48D. They have them for the progressive Mec's but no the single stage ones. http://www.mecshootingsports.com/p-675-mec-650n-parts.aspx Just need to be able to mount it some way. OR...Maybe in a drill press, not necessarily running but just for the downward pressure...

Re: MEC 410 shotshell reloader

It's a Yildiz SxS - that little $480 gun outshot a lot of guns in 10, 12, 16, 20 and 28-ga  More control in that I'd like the crimp shallower - i have the cam on the lowest setting but it still crimps too deep. I'd also like to see some support at the top of the shell to minimize the swelling ...
