Re: What do you guys think about this?
Well, Blackwidow, here is my take on how your outing went, in motorcycle racing terms. You decided to try bikes out and found a place that rents Kawasaki's and Suzuki's. The staff are all Suzuki fans even though they rent both. You took both out on the track and found the seat, handlebar, and foot p...

Re: Stopped for Wheelie
Most officers would write the citation for reckless driving, which is actually a trip to jail and not a ticket.
It used to be a display of acceleration but the changes to the law for racing make that much harder to prove and not applicable for cases like this.

Yes, that is the red sign. The blue sign is the one with blue printing and white background that says "The unlicensed possession of a firearm is a felony" or words to that effect> I don't happen to have the exact wording of it handy right now.

Re: A Definitive 51% Determination Guide
This is not currently listed anywhere on the TABC site as a clear cut guide. They are int he process of reworking the licensing applications and I do not know if this will change in the near future. So, here is what I can tell you. The license is the best reference, with the notes as previously desc...

Re: Serious/ stressing contact with Retired Game Warden
Since last January, the ID is even required to have a 24 hour number you can call to verify the status of the LEO. Ours don't - I asked about it after reading your response and nobody here has heard anything about it. Refer your HR or Chief's office to Chapter 614.122 of the Government Code for the...

Re: FBI agents stage sting to snare corrupt Illinois cops
Elvis, This is not really what I consider to be a blooper, because I take that as an uninintentional mistkae, usually with a funny outcome. This is worse than that. But, I also hope no one was offended by my response. This is the right forum for it, and I welcome people posting when cops do wrong to...

Re: Serious/ stressing contact with Retired Game Warden
Flintknapper, It really does depend on the situation. I don't know how the courts would look at it as I have never yet seen a case make it that far. Cops tend to either not believe it when someone does ask and laugh about it or think the person is being a wise guy and get mad. One of the weird probl...

Re: FBI agents stage sting to snare corrupt Illinois cops
Jim beat me to pointing out that this happens in Texas, but I remember one specific case I was going to mention. Around 1999, ten SAPD officers, including a sergeant who worked in the patrol division chief's office got busted for almost the exact same thing. They agreed to run security escorts for d...

Re: Did they even need to say that it was a GLOCK?
I would bet there is one time you put your finger in the trigger on a Glock when you do not want to shoot. While a lot of people do not like the lack of exterior safeties on the Glock other than the trigger safety, I do not think this is really a problem. After all, the first basic rule of safety ab...

Re: Do you think unlicenses Open-Carry will pass in Texas?
While I want to see it pass, I do not see it passing this time around, especially without the support of the TSRA. IMHO, we need to take small reasonable steps until all of chapter 46 is removed. This is not the correct tactical time to fight for this bill. It may not be a bad strategic move, as it ...

Re: Pulled over ... while walking
As another LEO, let me agree with Kevin and Elvis. This sounds like very bad police work. There is no need for probable cause to make an investigative stop, but, as Kevin pointed out, it does require specific and articulable suspicion that a crime is being committed (or about to be). On the other ha...

Re: Serious/ stressing contact with Retired Game Warden
yes, they should identify themselves and show ID if they are not in a uniform. That was also why i said the next time, you could ask for ID. All peace officers in Texas are required to have ID and show it on demand. Since last January, the ID is even required to have a 24 hour number you can call to...

Re: 51% signs
The sign is only legal if it is backed up by the TABC decision, which is the legally defined standard. The license or permit will say "SIGN=RED" or "SIGN=BLUE" (just a minor correction of the above post). One quick check that MAY help is to see on the TABC public inquiry web site...

Re: Whre to get final good information on car conceal?
Dewayneward, While I can easily show you the law in Texas that says you can carry a weapon in your car, I wanted to point out one flaw in what you asked for. There is no such thing sa proof that no LEO can argue with. While you might be able to explain to a cop what you thought the law was, and you ...

Re: Serious/ stressing contact with Retired Game Warden
First, a quick legal lesson. A retired game warden may be still commissioned as a special warden. This means he is still an active peace officer with full peace officer authority. This is also true for retired DPS troopers (called special Rangers) and retired TABC agents (called special agents - we ...
