Re: Today in Trump's new term as President

Wow. I just realized this is the first Address to Congress / State of the Union in eight years when we didn't see Sheila Jackson Lee elbow her way into an aisle position to get herself on television and shake the president's hand. That alone, for me, makes this speech a win...even before a word is s...

And be sure it isn't an ACOE-owned recreational area.

Re: 2 officers shot in southwest Houston

Chief Acevedo again: says second suspect has not been found, but that lockdown and shelter-in-place of the neighborhood is being lifted. He did say at one point " if there is a second suspect," but he indicated the assumption is that there is another suspect. Three homes were burglarized. ...

Re: 2 officers shot in southwest Houston

The police search has been called off; officers moving back to normal service. No word why, but it's entirely possible the suspect has been peacefully apprehended. ETA: Conflicting message. A SWAT officer just told a reporter that the search had not been called off; only that some officers had been ...

Re: 2 officers shot in southwest Houston

Chief Acevedo, speaking in front of the Ben Taub emergency entrance, says that Officer Jose Munoz is doing well, and may be released from the hospital tomorrow. He had no new update on Officer Ronny Cortez's condition. Helicopter video shows literally scores of carbine-armed officers and K9s going d...

Re: 2 officers shot in southwest Houston

Chief Acevedo addressing the press. Shelter-in-place still active. They are looking for one Hispanic male dressed in all black clothing with a blue bandana; believed to be armed and dangerous. A burglary was reported at 11:08; while some officers were in route, uniformed officers in the neighborhood...

Re: Aww, Dang It!

I said yes, I know, but I can get one a lot cheaper on-line. So she says: "no, you don't understand. We price match on-line prices, too." I said, no I did not know that. I didn't know that either. Note to self: temporarily , stay away from the Academy gun counter. I've been thinking about...

Re: 2 officers shot in southwest Houston

When I lived in southwest Houston back in the late sixties the southwest part of town was a relatively safe and quiet place. Sadly, times have changed. Heard that. In the late '60s and early '70s, the southwest area around Sharpstown was the place to be. No longer. I don't even like having to drive...

Re: 2 officers shot in southwest Houston

Mayor being interviewed. Officer Cortez (Cortes?) is in critical condition (shot in stomach and back; at Memorial Hermann); officer Munoz injured less severely (shot in leg; at Ben Taub). It is believed that there are three burglary suspects in SW Houston; one dead on the scene, two (believed) not y...

Re: Harris County Precint 5 Park - Bear Creek

Is there an easy way to tell if park land is owned by COE without using google? I'm not aware of a truly easy way to confirm to confirm land/lake ownership, associated easements, and permitted recreational use without looking up a particular location. Here's a link to the ACOE locations launch page...

Re: Oscars

Everybody is talking about all the "real" jobs being taken away by robots and how it is futile for the working class to expect to get their jobs back. Hey what about all the screen actors being replaced by CGI. lets face it, that has already started, even if it is still early days. It is ...

Re: Les Paul copy guitar kit

Saddest thing I've heard this week.

Do order a new neck. Salvage this; its yours.

That the relationship with your previous friend cannot be salvaged...well, been there. There's only so much you can do if they push away every attempt at help and hope.
