Re: Today in Trump's new term as President

... Big made up controversy on whether Trump can pardon himself. Trump continues to dominate the news cycle. Either Rudy Gulianni stumbled badly in a stupid word game of gotcha while giving an interview, talking about presidential self-pardons, or he executed a beautiful move that had the media apoplectic for a day. Either way, it does not matter. If it's the former, he needs to be more careful...

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President

Exactly what crime did the president commit that would warrant him to grant himself a pardon? Lying to the FBI? Lying to the special council? :lol...

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President

If the House and the Senate wish to impeach and convict a sitting president, there is nothing he can do about it. Any talk of "self-pardon" is complete nonsense. A president cannot be charged by any other means while in office. If things went off the rails, and he did get charged by a rogue grand jury during his tenure, he could pardon himself - because the charging would be unconstitutional, and because he can pardon anyone he wants of criminal conviction. Clear? He may want to be careful while in office, because he won't be president forever. We are going to see Obama charged with something...

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President

This is so obviously a lie it really isn't worth quoting but it is another example of personal attacks when nothing else is available. Pointing out that someone is pretending to not follow (tactically obtuse) is neither a lie nor a personal attack. Addressing a tactic is not a personal attack...

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President

The fact that the point is lost on you is exactly the point. :tiphat: I'm sorry, I conduct discussions using logic and reason. If you were communicating in something else, or merely meant to change the subject because you you were unable to utilize either logic or reason in support of a position, then you need to work on an effective form of rhetoric beyond cartoons. You and Dale bash Trump every single posting. You simply cannot claim logic and reason when you exhibit such baseless hatred. The cartoon illustrates your hypocrisy. I may regret getting in the middle here, but the point was so crystal clear and humorous that it defies belief that it was not understood...

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President

... Agreed that the process to remove a sitting president is thru impeachment, but does mean that a president can not commit obstruction per se? or that a president could pardon himself without consequence? or that a sitting president is above the law? I think not, or the next obama will have a field day in office. The ideas floating trump's positions on these issues are at best not well though out, or worse, are garbage designed as distraction. Any high crime or misdemeanor can be addressed with impeachment and conviction while in office. Once out of office, the normal channels of justice apply. I think we may see this very thing in action very soon. A former president cannot pardon his own self (or maybe he can?). Maybe a blanket pardon of his own self on the last day in office? That is fully in the middle of banana republic territory...

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President

Trump proclaims "I have the absolute right to PARDON myself" this morning. This followed a weekend of cronies trying to sell the idea that a president can't commit obstruction of justice... If this is true (and I don't believe for a minute that it is), can you imagine what the next democrat in office could be allowed to do by such a precedent?! https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-russia/trump-says-he-has-absolute-power-to-pardon-himself-idUSKCN1J01L2?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+reuters%2FtopNews+%28News+%2F+US+%2F+Top+News%29 The process to bring a president to justice is impeachment in the House and conviction in the Senate. Period, full stop. In that sense, he is legally different than everyone else. It has to be that way if you want a county called the US to live in...
