Re: Do any LE agencies sell/auction seized weapons?
srothstein: Wow, thanks for the update on all that TABC works on. I had no visibility to their powers. FYI: Another set of LEO's that you don't hear too much about are the US Postal Service Inspectors (I'm not sure this is their exact title). Many crimes have a component to them where fraudulent doc...

Re: The Taser/stun gun as a self-defense weapon.
The problem that I see with the Taser is that the barbs
may not penetrate heavy clothing. Even a .22 would be a
giant step up in that regard.
Also, what about the scenario with multiple attackers?

ELB & casingpoint: It's totally understandable to me how you are not that approving of his substance use/abuse situation. What I appreciate about him is that he was an original character who would live out his life on his own terms. His style of "the pursuit of happiness" may differ fr...

Re: Do any LE agencies sell/auction seized weapons?
srothstein & papacub: Thanks for the places where these weapons are sold. What I was hoping for would be a free-for-all kind of police auction where you could pick up weapons at a bargain price. Since these weapons have gotten into the system at authorized dealers, it seems like they would just ...

Re: Do police reports/arrest records qualify as public records?
AEA or anyone: My assumption would be that our status as CHL holders is protected from potential employers, or anyone else who looks into public records. I believe our CHL records are shielded. It would be a bummer to lose a job due to the employer seeing that we have a CHL. Most corporations are &q...

Dallas PD avoids tragedy involving realistic toy pistols
Recently the Dallas Police Department has avoided tragedy when responding to "person with a gun" calls. There have been recent incidents when officers have encountered people carrying realistic shotguns/AR-15's/handguns which were actually toys and not real weapons. Wasn't there a law pass...

Re: Do any LE agencies sell/auction seized weapons?
StewNTexas: That reminds me of a visit we took to Hot Springs, Arkansas on Labor Day weekend of 1997, which was the weekend that Lady Diana died. We took a lake ride on the military surplus DUKW's (ducks) which are the amphibious trucks that the US military used during WW II. It was very scenic and ...

Welcome to the forum, my neighbor!! Lots of good chat about guns to be had.
We have both gun nuts and gun enthusiasts here. :-)
Tell us more about which XD you have.
I currently carry a Taurus PT-111, 9MM, but an XD is on my short list for a
future carry piece.

Re: Hunter S. Thompson autographed with hot lead!
Hunter S. Thompson had been experiencing debilitating health problems and decided to commit suicide while he had the ability to do so. He had lead a highly colorful life and apparently did not want to be reduced to a slow lingering death. He was sitting in his kitchen and talking to his wife on the ...

Re: Do any LE agencies sell/auction seized weapons?
srothstein: Thanks for the data you have provided. What surprised me was that TABC has seized weapons during their enforcement activities. My perception of TABC is that they write up bars for incorrect procedures, or conduct stings where they have underage people try to buy alcohol at stores or get ...

Hunter S. Thompson autographed with hot lead!
Hunter S. Thompson, irreverent Gonzo journalist, druggie, Rolling Stone contributor, and all around American eccentric, lived the last part of his life on acreage in Colorado. One day a visiting college professor came by and brought multiple students with him to meet Hunter S. Thompson. They all had...

I'm betting that the cops themselves get to take home
the pick of the litter - Kimbers or whatever suits their fancy.
Then the rest go to the crusher.

Do police reports/arrest records qualify as public records?
Can anyone clarify the status of police reports and/or arrest records? On the one hand, it seems that these should be public records. But if that were the case access to them would be difficult if they were not entered into some kind of Internet web site for citizen perusal. On the other hand, it se...

Do any LE agencies sell/auction seized weapons?
Does anyone have any idea if there are law enforcement agencies that sell or auction off the firearms that they seize on a constant basis? I believe the answer is no. Some PD's have giant crushing machines that totally tear apart any weapons they are fed. But maybe, somewhere, could there be a depar...
