player-twister, If you need any more encouragement, add me to the chorus of "keep a round chambered," and "cocked and locked with a quality gun is perfectly fine." If you are uncomfortable with any aspect of your self-defense skills, go get some quality training. Heck, even if yo...

I've attended two of John Farnam's defensive shooting classes ( http://www.defense-training.com/ ); as well as being an instructor, he is an LEO also. He spends quite a bit of class time talking about how one should act before and after shooting in self-defense, and for the "after" part hi...

I guess this a bit OT to the specific incident that started the thread, but HankB's story reminded me of a lesson leaned that is more related to the concept of having the proper mindset about why you are carrying a gun...of which it appears that security guard had no clue about. Several defensive ha...

nuparadigm, While I sympathize with wanting to "shelter in place" (Gov'ts term for when there ain't nowhere else to go), there are some events that will not respect your efforts. I was stationed in Los Angeles for four years, lucky enough the live in the Santa Monica mountains, but it was ...

Farnam Advanced Defensive Handgun Course & Rifle/Shotgun

On 2/3/4 March 07 I took John Farnam's Advanced Defensive Handgun Course ( http://defense-training.com ) in Victoria Texas. I had originally signed up to do it last October, but was horrendously sick on the designated weekend. This time I made it, altho I picked up a head cold at the course - it was...

amcit, I got my initial CHL and renewal from Sammy Miller. He is (last I looked) an investigator for the DA's office, former SAPD guy, and he brings in one of the local assistant DAs to speak on legal aspects. Worked well for me. Here's his website: http://www.concealedhandgun.com/ Good luck. elb p....

I am by no means an AK expert - I am not even a novice yet (i.e. haven't bought one), but I done some serious looking around at about a dozen internet sellers, and $500 seems high for a WASR to me.

Good luck.

Kim certainly has and interesting background, and firm opinions! I like most of them. He used to call his blog "Nation of Riflemen" just like the forums, but he ran into some problems trying to get financing to start a company to sell some software he (and his wife, I think) developed. One...

A list like this is worth a sticky, I think, especially if Paladin can add to it as people ID the sources in their posts. I didn't realize there were so many in Texas. Googling for them is kind of a chore.

Farnam Basic Defensive Handgun Course

Hi folks. New guy on the board here, I think a forum devoted to Texas CHL holders is an excellent idea, particularly the areas that help keep track of the law and training. To that end, I would like to post a report on a defensive handgun course I took last year from John and Vickie Farnam. This is ...

Ranger,

+1 to Starvin's praise (and I am about as new as he is). Best wishes to you, and look forward to hearing anything you want to tell us about.
