Re: Motorcycles
To be brief: definitely take an MSF course to help sort out the necessities of being much less visible on the road! I've gone over 50K miles on the road with no accidents because I never threw a leg over without thinking today could be the one fateful day if I didn't pay attention. Longest trip was ...

Search "How many states can you get legal in" for an interesting discussion about 50-state carry.

Re: Summer Road Trip
Be aware that OH doesn't recognize TX CHL and they have some odd laws of keeping things separated in different compartments of the vehicle as well as locked up etc. There's a thread on here somewhere, "legal carry in every state" or something like that and you'll find info on creatively co...

Re: Walking through 30.06 signs
Great discussions here. My solution is to use the power of the pen with those who create victim rich zones, letting them know I'll certainly vote with my wallet and discourage others from patronizing. I also include references to various pro self-defense texts which I recommend they read (I know, I ...

Re: Need Help: The Parents Found Out...
Have patience and be firm is my advice. My mom was an anit gun type all while I was growing up. I got my CHL about 3 years ago when my kids became toddlers and I realized I had lost a good chunk of my awareness having to pay attention to kids walking through parking lots. Anyway, I slowly broke it t...

I can't offer you any legal advice but I will offer my prayers that he's able to keep on the straight and narrow.

Re: Gun Safety Rules
Just remembered there are two videos at the Harris County Public Library that I've had kids watch many times. They teach the basic rules of gun safety and are appropriate to all ages. The premise is that even if there are no guns in one house, the child at some time will be in a house that does have...

Re: Gun Safety Rules
I enjoyed this original post with all rules stating that humans make mistakes. One thing I enjoy is the challenge of teaching my kids life lessons. I made a BB gun range in the back yard to physically drive home gun handling lessons. It's fun to shoot with them both BBs and a .22 rifle (not in the b...

Re: What's the Origin of Your User Name?
Sport Coach is fairly self-explanatory except for the fact that I've been Mr. Mom for the last 8 years. I've found it a bit surprising, now that I'm getting back to work because kids are in school full-time, that people have totally forgotten what I used to do. Well, people regularly tell me my kids...

Re: Guns in state parks
The wording for the state parks in flyers and wooden signs is similar to Harris county parks. I called Jesse Jones park last month and they said, as expected with the 1998 ruling, that CHL carry was fine - the signs mean that you're not supposed to discharge a firearm. I'd call that a bit deceptive ...

Re: Robbery Prevention / Tips (YEAH RIGHT)
Some commentary from one of the most reputable sources on the subject: “Men who behave passively are 1.4 times more likely to end up seriously injured than men who have a gun. For women, passive behavior is even more dangerous, making them 2.5 times more likely to wind up seriously injured than if...

Re: Training videos: ECQC, Knife/hand, tac. pistol/shotgun/rifle
I have the Shivworks Fighting Handguns and like the simple and effective information. I also just bought and read Contemporary Knife Targeting. Initially I thought it was a small book for a medium to big price. After reading it and doing a bit of practicing I'd say it's worth the price - simple and ...

Re: Shiloh in Houston
Last night's (Thursday) IDPA style shoot was great as we had a bunch of good guys come from other locations due to their being rained out Wednesday night. I'm not one to spoil anybody's fun but I'll be looking forward to poor weather on Wednesdays again. The more the merrier.
