Just put down the dates that you were unemployed and state that you were unemployed.

There is no requirement that you have a job or spotless work history, they just want to know what you were doing and where for the background checks.

I'm not advocating against carrying spare mags, by any means, but comparing the kinds of defensive situations you might find yourself in as a CHL (let's hope not) to protracted police shootouts is probably not apples to apples. I have this problem shooting pistols. Rifles I don't have this problem at all.

I think it is because with rifles you tend to be up a lot closer to the rear sight and it blocks out some of the distraction from the right eye.
