Re: 16 year old daughter pocket knife/ pepper spray

Odd to see this kind of debate on a self-defense forum because this next part should go without saying, in the style of "been there, talked about that already". The argument that a knife won't help... it overlooks the psychological factors that characterize the act of predation. Last month...

Re: Throwing knives / Spikes

.... ... You aren't going to kill a bear, wolf, coyote, or any other dangerous predator with a throwing knife. If you leave whatever it is that they came after they aren't going to pursue you. Attacking a bear with a knife is just going to get you killed. Doing nothing at all in those scenarios wil...

Re: Throwing knives / Spikes

.... If all you have to defend against a bear start running. LOL... that won't work. And besides, around our camping property, there are also coyotes that are partly made of wolf DNA. They are far larger and meaner than what we have in Texas. They killed a young woman out for a hike some years back...

Re: Throwing knives / Spikes

... This - :fire is much easier to learn and to become competent with. Of course it is. It's also not allowable in Canada, from which I just returned (5 week trip). I got curious about knife throwing one evening when I realized that I was camping with six different knives within arm's reach. ...

Re: Throwing knives / Spikes

.... the knives bounce really far when they don't stick. Even the lead guy was less than 50%. And the harder you throw it, the further and higher they bounce! The axe was pretty easy and after a few tries, I went 3 for 4 into the target. (the axe didn't bounce far) I never got the knife to stick- b...

Re: Throwing knives / Spikes

It's a skill that can be practiced in one's back yard with a minimum of investment. practiced, not mastered... IMO with a "minimum of investment" you can't even practice SAFELY in your back yard (assuming you live in town). it's a skill few have mastered. I'm curious as to what spec...

Re: Throwing knives / Spikes

An update to this thread - a piece by Texas Tribune that talks about knife throwing in particular. I'm sorta surprised that it's not more of a sport than it is. It's a skill that can be practiced in one's back yard with a minimum of investment. https://www.texastribune.org/2017/09/12/new-texas-law-e...

As an owner of an off-grid house on wheels (up-fit 2006 Mercedes Sprinter cargo van, http://interstateblog.blogspot.com/ and a glamping multi-forum participant for the past four years (plus the same groove on Instagram, ad nauseum), here is the procedure that I recommend: (1) Review all makes and mo...

Re: Illegal Kitty Keychain

One of the tactical tricks I've read about is women should carry their keys in hand to smash into an attacker's face, thus protecting her. So, given the above, she'd be in trouble if she defended herself in this manner? To elaborate on what I suspect this poster is conveying, keys in hand means the...

I'm sending you an email so check your spam folder if you don't get it.

I'm in League City and we may need some electrical. It never hurts to discuss.

Re: Brazilian Mom shoots robber

... Looks like Fox spliced the video so we are missing the part between the bad guy approaching with a gun and the Mom moving into position. That's what aggravates me. Let's see the whole video, not chopped up, intact and slowed down, so that her lightning-fast reaction is clearly visible. I tried ...

Brazilian Mom shoots robber

Nice job, although I wish news sites would slow down the video on re-play so that we can better learn from it. It happens so fast.

Re: Austin based Yeti quits doing business with NRA

I encourage people to consider Cabela's name-branded coolers (I am not personally affiliated with the brand or store). I own a Yeti 45 only because it was first on the market in its class (they really do work and can keep ice for a week as advertised - I haul frozen food cross-continent in mine). If...

Re: Benbrook PD Called for Gun Tshirt in Park

I would be surprised if there was a person out there who couldn't claim a stereotyping story of some sort. I have very short salt-and-pepper hair which I cannot and will not dye (lap swimmer), and I don't wear make-up, do my nails, or wear heels. Occasionally I get addressed in a disrespectful way b...
