Re: MT: Other than that, how was your honeymoon?

I told my wife before we got married that divorce would never be an option ... My wife and I also agreed before taking the vows that we would not consider divorce (we're Catholic). We've managed not to kill one another for 33 years. Unfortunately, the idea of "starter marriages" and baili...

Re: Michigan to Texas - CHL Question

You can convert a Texas CHL to non-resident with an address in another state. Whether it would be valid in Michigan after that is beyond my meager knowledge.

Many states do not allow a resident of the state to use a non-resident license from another state.

Re: MT: Other than that, how was your honeymoon?

Sort of wonder how they got as far as marriage in the first place... I could only speculate. Sometimes people get on the wedding roller-coaster and go ahead despite obvious problems. I knew a couple that dated for years, all through college, got married, and were divorced in a couple of months. The...

Re: Santa Fe: Another sad alcohol and guns story

There may have been a time when some media sources were objective, but it was long ago and far away. Newspapers in the U.S. were nakedly partisan from day 1. They only tried or pretended to be objective in the latter half of the 20th century. As long as readers understand that media and individual j...

They pulled out the three-letter series that obviously were bad words, like a double-s. I don't know about that one. But at the time gay was not widely known for what it means now—especially in Iowa.

Re: Denton County: ~ 200 CHL's get CHL car tags, no add'l $$

Nobody who doesn't have a CHL knows what those letters stand for (other than cops and some DPS employees). This reminds me, back in maybe the 1980s, the state of Iowa issued license plates in the same methodical way, until they got to GAY____. Then the stuff hit the fan. At that time, the word gay w...

Probably she yelled at him and he turned to face her.

In real self-defense shootings, there is often an issue about where on the body the offender is shot. People can move quickly and unpredictably, even in the milliseconds between a trigger pull and impact.

Re: Nearly-forgotten history: Second battle of Sabine pass

I think [Dowling] may be the first street on the east side of "downtown" Houston. I don't know how you define downtown Houston. I always think of 59 as the east border of downtown. East of there was the kind of territory where you keep your windows rolled up and doors locked and pretend t...

You're welcome.

I never knew who Dick Dowling was until today, though his name is on an exit from I-45 northbound in Houston.

Nearly-forgotten history: Second battle of Sabine pass

During the late unpleasantness (a.k.a. the Civil War), Confederate forces recaptured Galveston from the Union on January 1, 1863. The Union had meanwhile blockaded or taken over Atlantic and eastern gulf coast ports, leaving Galveston as one of a few safe harbors for Confederate sympathizers and smu...

Re: Officials: Children killed while pushing a pick-up

Update: Fox 26 legal analyst Chris Tritico says if the case goes before a jury he likes the odds of acquittal. "I would be comfortable in any county in Texas trying a case like this where the emotion is going to swing this heavily in favor of the defendant," said Tritico. http://www.myfoxh...
